Thread: Icon size help

    Default Icon size help
I would like to make an icon theme, but the problem I'm having is that I can't seem to get past the 120x120 pixel icon size limit of ios 7 (If that's a thing). I want to make a theme where the icons touch each other on all sides. If the iphone 5s' screen resolution is 1136 x 640, then 4 icons at 128 pixels wide should fill up the width of the screen. But this doesn't seem to be the case. regardless of how big I make the icons, when I apply the theme, they look the same size as all the others.

Keep in mind, the last time I worked on a theme was probably back around the ios 3 or 4 time frame so I'm sure a lot has changed in the world of ios themes.

Any help on this would be awesome, thank you!

You're icon is now restricted to 120x120. The only way to make it bigger is to use Bigify (free), Bigify+ or Shrink

    Sorry...

Yep...BUT you'd also have to account for people (like me) that use five icons or more for each column. Your idea would cause icon overlap which wouldn't look good, anyways. Know what I'm sayin?

You could make your theme suggest one of the above tweax I mentioned (w/ links provided in the description) and explain what size you recommend.

    Here's the direct links:

    Bigify:

    Bigify+:

Ah bummer, Bigify+ doesn't support iOS 7.1.2 yet haha

I'll give it a try when it gets updated

Ahhh, ok! That looks slick! The best idea I can think of is creating a 10x10 AppIconMask and then transparent square icons. You'll be restricted to the 120x120 size but maybe there's a way to make it still flow...

How about transparent icons w/out borders and just the words at the bottom?

    Although the grid looks cool!

    Take a look at this...
I use Five-Column Springboard. Here's what my icons look like with that:

Maybe you could link to Five-Column or Iconoclasm (same dev) and still be able to 'almost' get the look you're going for...

My best advice is to head to this forum where the theming gurus hang out. We're fairly helpful in coming up w/ solutions/answers.

I played around a little bit. This is a blank AppIconMask ( 0 bytes ) and a 120x120 square icon with 2px gradient border.

Better example (tried a 130x130 icon just for fun):

You could try out something w/ a little gradient, as well.

This is a 1px line at top/bottom w/ reflected gradient:
