Brutal force skinning for me
I manually changed all icons in all folders to have High Res icons on my iPhone 4
Everything's fine with stock apps, but problem with AppStore apps : icons have strange behaviour :
1st screenshot (using WinterBoard), standard WinterBoard structure, with icons folder, and nameofapp.png icons inside
Using WinterBoard, icons appear in low res, only 60*60 icons are working (double res display icons very huge !)
2nd screenshot :
Icons are directly modified in apps folders (easy way to change icons)
They are High Res
SpeedTest : Square grey/black mask behind and over my icon
Navigon : Black background behind my icon (AppStore one is the same)
Why i don't get transparency ?
Where's the problem
I must change icons directly in app folders to have High Res icons, but why black background/mask are added ?
All stock apps are working fine, but AppStore ones are displayed with mask/background. Why ?
Help please !

Winterboard doesn't work with iPhone 4 and using the icons folder yet. So nothing done wrong there.
When you theme through the app folder it's self hour replacing an image that will be "auto skinned" through the icon mask and shadow in uiimages.
So this os how an icon would work that uses the icon mask and shadow
Bottom layer woild be the icon shadow.
On top of that would be [email protected]
And ontop of that woild be the the mask to cut out unwanted portions of the [email protected] (giving it rounded corners on a square image)
So what your seeing is the mask and because your image is not big enough it's filled in with black because that's what the shadow image is. I beleive if you just make the shadow transperant it will solve your problem.
I can't say 100 percent but I'm almost positive that's what's happening

Thx for answering !
Do you have paths to .png i have to make them transparent ?
I have done few tests in SpringBoard.app, privateframeworks folders (i don't remember which one) without success.
I think it won't be difficult, just 2 or 3 .png to modify, but really difficult to find the right ones !
Finally got it !
I deleted the following icons out of /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileIcons.framework
And everything's OK now, in HiRes !
Thx for useful help !
