So maybe I'm the only one but I'm actually getting annoyed at all these themes coming out now that "auto-create" icons and claim to have "every icon" All they do is utilize AppIconMask, AppIconShadow, and AppIconOverlay. The reasons this that this annoys me may seem completely outrageous to some of you but it actually get me extremely angry when I see this. First off, everybody who uses this acts like it's brand new technology and that's it's never been done before but actually it's been around at least since 3.0 maybe even before, and actually worked MUCH better on 3.0 and 3.01 because it didn't require you to clear the caches every time...The next reason is the very poor quality of the app icons formed by these means.....Unless you use a very open design then some icons won't show correctly because not all app icons are in the same place, they can be off center and you can barely see what app they are supposed to be through the weird designs that are put up. It takes all the work off the person making the theme because all you have to do is make one or at the most three files and then some people think that this one file makes their theme "Selling" material??? I can understand making every icon you have and then putting this just so people have something that appears the same until they can request a better icon, but apart from this I find these functions quite useless....I used to make themes using these UI elements but then I realized all this so I'm just wondering if ANYBODY feels the same way, or I at least ask themers to take the time and make better quality icons and just use this as lagniappe...

i feel your pain. its hard to find a good theme these days with the thousands of new ones that are so similar, and cost money for old technology lol

Ur right. Some of the themes are horrible with this feature. But there' are some theme are good with this

I can say that this tech has been around longer than 3.0. This functionality has worked since 2.2.1 or before. I can tell you that what many people want is a theme that has all uniformed icons out of the box. They don't want to do icon requests, they don't want to Ssh, the want complete out of the box. If people request special icons for my theme, I have no problem making them. Additionally, if this was at all directed at my newest theme Elite, there is ALOT More put into it than an icon overlay. It is more complete than most themes found today. I hope this helps clear the "Why" up for you

hahahaha bars this wasn't at you at all- I love your work- this was for the new guys who just came in and thought they found something "new" and i understand the want for all uniform icons but I don't think quality should suffer because of it...and yours is more complete than many others....but the others were what I was talkin about hope you weren't offended didn't mean it to go towards Elite

No, no problem whatsoever. I have a better feel on what your saying now. I do think you are right. There are many themes that are paid that make me cringe these days

I still prefer those to the ones that release copied stuff for money and don't even create any icon/ui from scratch, like I see in leopard or htc themes. That said, props to bars, one of the few themers that justify a theme to be paid.
