How do you create custom backgrounds for themes?

Well the first thing you need to do is learn how to SSH. You can youtube that lol.

Things you need on your phone will be Winterboard, SBSettings, OpenSSH(wifi ssh) and/or afc2add(usb ssh)
-if on windows program you need is WinSCP for wifi, or ifunbox for usb transfers.
-Mac its cyberduck for wifi and i dont know about usb


But after you know how you can download THIS. Its the stock iphone theme. All the files and folders are in the right place, you just have to replace them with what you want.

well the link at the bottom of my post has all backgrounds/images you need for making a theme except icons.

Just make a 57x57 png image with the name of the app you want an icon for. Place that in the Icons folder.

EDIT: you also need to make a Wallpaper.png in the main folder.

and i would recommend a program named Gimp. Its like photoshop, but free.

320x480 is full screen for iphones.

320x480 pixels is the size of the whole ipod touch 2g/3g or iphone 3g/3gs(maybe 2g or 1g iphone idk).

So for anything thats a fullscreen pic like the lock background, any wallpaper ect are 320x480 pixels
