The easiest way to edit the icons of your apps is to make a screenshot of your iPhone springboard so you can see all the icons. Open that photo up on your computer in photoshop and you can cut out each icon separately and edit to how you want. Then name the new .png file the same as the display name of your app. In your theme, create a new folder called "Icons" and put the newly created icon into that folder and when you activate your theme in winterboard it should display the new icon instead of the original one.

you can ssh into your phone to 2 spots:

    /Applications

    /var/mobile/applications

in the first folder you will see most of the stock iphone apps, and inside each apps folder you will see a file named icon.png, just copy that to your desktop and rename it and that's your icon.

    Click for larger:

the second folder is where most of your installed apps are, like cydia etc...except when you open this folder you won't see each apps names, instead it will be a series of numbers and letters, each one of those is an app on your phone. In similar fashion you can open the folder and then open the app folder and download the icon.png to your desktop.

Once you have renamed the itunesartwork to the whatevername.png, open it in Paint first, and just resave it as a .png. Then you can open it in photoshop and edit it or make any icon out of it you like.

You can also download the itunesartwork file that is inside the main folder of each app, and rename it to whatever.png (whatever being whatever name you want), being sure to add the .png extension to the end of it, and this will give you the full resolution 512 x 512 artwork of the app that was used to make the icon. With this you can then make whatever kind of icon you want out of it easier.

There is also a theme you can download called Stock 3.0, which has all of the stock images on the iphone that can be modified and themed, as well as a structured location that is useful for beginning themers. It shows you where everything goes, and gives accurate dimensions, so you can essentially just replace the images in each folder and that is your theme.

you can download that here: Stock 3.0 Theme

    Hope that helps!

that's why you don't do it that way...get the actual artwork, and make your own...so much cleaner and really easy to do...just follow the above steps with pictures ~~
