Default SSH into someone else's phone on a different network

I know that many may say that this is a "hack" and shouldn't be talked about but I figure since all this stuff has come up recently and everyone's probably changed their password by now it's ok to ask. So here's the story: I'm making someone a theme and they also want a custom carrier logo to go with it that has their name. I don't want to put the carrier logo with their name on the package I send to Cydia so I decided that I would teach him how to ssh in to his phone and navigate and all that fun stuff. After, I realized how easy it would have been for me to ssh into his phone and put the files in myself, so I asked if I could do an experiment and he consented. BUT....when I typed in his ip, root, 22, / it said it couldn't connect and I was quite mad that I couldn't do what hackers can haha So the question: Is there a way to ssh into someone else's phone on a different network WITH CONSENT and if you know the ip address? Thanks in advance!

    Default malicious

You cannot connect to it via it's Data IP address.. ATT has firewalls preventing that. It would be possible to program an app that makes their iphone a server and gives it an IP that you could connect to.. this could be malicious though.. so yeah.

I knew you couldn't connect via the Data network, but what i was asking is if it is possible to type in the ip address of a phone on a different network, and still gain access if you know their password. I would like it if I could avoid being labeled malicious haha so the app wouldn't work.
