Those dots come from the categories in iCal, when you add a new category the color changes.

My red dot is set for the in-laws appointments - Oh how I hate it when i see a red dot on the calendar.

I dont have iCal, or even a Mac... these dots show up when you have more than 1 calendar sync'd with outlook.
1 calendar's entries are red, the other is orange.
The images are definitely resident on the iPhone, but I cant find em!!

Those may in fact be simple vector images that have no physical png requirement. Kinda like the keyboard. I don't know whether or not that is the case, but if they are not in the app as separate png files, then chances are they are generated by code.

Excellent call Reinhold, you are absolutely correct.
I started looking through some .sqlitedb files, and sure enough, I found an RGB color code that's used to generate the colored balls.
This sucks, but i'll have to settle for changing the db codes to change the ball colors... which worked fine.

With this discovery, i'll probably start dickin around with the keyboard databases soon...
