How to fix corrupt .png file?!

Ok I SSH into my phone and then I download an icon. Once it is downloaded and I try to open it up in photoshop it gives me a error saying, "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file."
And when I down load it and click on it it usually give a preview of the picture but all it shows is the default icons thingy.
If ya'll need screen shots I'll post them.
If there is no way to fix them then how do I get the icons to make custom icons?
