Ok, so I don’t know about you guys, but for me, between Evernote, and Google bookmarks, I am seriously having trouble keeping all my iPhone info organized. With guides, and tuts becoming more and more popular, its hard to keep it all in one place. So I wanted to start a thread so we can all share, and contribute sources of GOOD information. This will consist of How-To’s, Guides, even themes (if they can provide something unique or useful beyond just their own installation.). I think this will be mostly for WB (Winterboard) related topics, but I have no problem putting other stuff here (as long as it doesn’t get too out of hand) but the main focus is on Themeing.
So I’ll start the list, and I promise to keep this post updated (and up to date – meaning I will remove all obsolete info like anything related to Summerboard, etc.) with the info from this thread, as long as there is useful participation from you guys.
Winterboard Tools
1.)
iPhone Theming on WinterBoard - Jay Freeman (saurik) - The official documentation for Winterboard (written by Saurik) This is very useful, however it may be more relevant to those more familiar with wb to begin with. It is really much more useful to “advanced” users.
2.)
http://www.modmyi.com/forums/winterb...verything.html - This is kind of like a theme “template”. It has every themeable .png and .caf file on the iPhone in WB format so you can see where everything goes, and swap out images to make your theme.
Update:
http://www.modmyi.com/forums/winterb...ml#post4776201 -
this is the 3.0 version
3.)
http://www.modmyi.com/forums/skinnin...2-artwork.html - This is iPhone Shop. It is a program to export and import cached .artwork files. Though most of the cached .artwork files are already in the Complete Winterboard theme, this can still be useful for non-wb users, as well as foreign users (I did not include non-US keyboards for example in that theme template.
4.)
Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire – I couldn’t find any documentation on this, so if anyone knows of any, let me know and ill update the link, but this is just my copy (not even sure if it is the most current) of Pledit. It is a program that will allow you to read, edit and create properly formatted .string and .plist files for the iPhone. I believe it is only for PC though, but let me know.
5.)
http://www.modmyi.com/forums/winterb...nterboard.html - This is a VERY useful and informative thread that attempts to map out all the UIImages. It is FAR from complete, but it provides a very solid base to start from. Hopefully there will be much more discussion on that thread in the future that will sway people to continue the project.
6.)
**Internal Linking (Threads) – This is a theme “builder/previewer”. I haven’t had time to test this out yet, but it looks VERY promising. (I know there are a lot of these type of programs out there, but this appears to be the most robust, but let me know if you know of a better one) ********Update: New site location.
Guides, Tutorials, and How-To’s
1.)
MacThemes Forum / [WinterBoard HELP] Almost-complete iPhone Theme-ing Guide. – This is the macthemes stickied winterboard guide. It is very well organized, and it includes a complete list of all the info.plist keys strings, and description (Note: Be sure to read post #9 and #12 for the link to the rest of the Font information)
2.)
Hack that Phone - Make and use themes with WinterBoard - An extremely well done WEB-BASED tutorial on WB themeing.
3.)
[2.2.X] Winterboard FAQ/Guide - iPod touch Fans... – Very useful beginners guide to winterboard
4.)
[HOW TO] Use WinterBoard for everything you need... – Another WB guide. I know there are HUNDREDS of these out there, but I want to include the few that are the most complete, and this one imo is clearly that.
5.)
http://www.modmyi.com/forums/winterb...-tutorial.html - another very well written wb guide. Stickied on MMi.
6.)
SSH - iPod touch Fans forum – The ultimate SSH guide. I was going to add a couple of the ssh apps threads, but this thread pretty much sums it all up!
7.)
WinterBoard Widgets-The Ultimate Guide - iPod... – A guide on Widgets.
Small Guides related to Specific issues
1.)
MacThemes Forum / WinterBoard ("SummerBoard" for 2.0) – This is the “official” winterboard thread. (I only say “official” because it is the only one (that I know of) that has active discussion with Saurik himself.
2.)
MacThemes Forum / [MS Extension] WeatherIcon 2.0.4 – The official Weathericon thread. (again I am only using “official” to describe threads that are posted or subscribed by the actual author)
3.)
MacThemes Forum / LiveClock on Springboard – The official LiveClock thread.
4.)
MacThemes Forum / New Winterboard Feature + Status Bar Guide – This is a post explaining how the status bar works. It is not in the best format, because it is mixed with a request for a new wb feature, but it will explain everything you would want to know about how to theme the status bar.
Miscellaneous
1.)
W3Schools Online Web Tutorials - This is a site that will teach you (for free) in a very organized way: HTML, XML,
JS, etc. and most importantly (at least as far as wb is concerned) CSS.
2.)
The WebKit Open Source Project - learn webkit. (For advanced users)
Themes (again, only if they provide something unique, or useful in the sense that one could “learn from example”)
1.)
http://www.modmyi.com/forums/new-ski...eta-1-0-a.html - iNav - This one should be pretty obvious… Just watch the video.
2.)
http://www.modmyi.com/forums/new-ski...me-ninjas.html - iNinja - Most “completely” themed theme to date.
3.)
http://www.modmyi.com/forums/new-ski...s-sidebar.html - Vista Bliss - incredible use of widgets, liveclock, and weathericon.
4.)
MacThemes Forum / Animated Weather Elements HD V2 AND V3 by MNIDHK (New version !!!) – Incredible lockscreen Weather theme.
Sites
1.)
Apple & iPhone News | Forums | ModMyi.com - MMi – iPhone and iPod Touch Mega-Site for ALL “I” related discussion. Includes a download section, forums, a virtual cydia store, a wiki, and much much more.
2.)
iPod touch Fans - iPod Touch Forum.
3.)
MacThemes - General themeing site for all things “Mac”. The iPhone forums are very well moderated, and organized. This site generally attracts more “advanced” users, and photoshopers.
4.)
Hack that Phone - Read me first - a very well kept site that is constantly being updated with all Jailbreak relevant info. Includes Guides, Tutorials, etc.
Ok, so this is NOWHERE near complete, and in many cases, I just put up links as examples of what I am looking for. Please feel free to put up ANYTHING you want in this thread. If it is something useful, I will update it in this post, and if it starts to get out of hand, we can always go back and remove stuff, but for right now, I’m really just looking for QUANTITY over QUALITY.
Also, PEASE PROVIDE DESCRIPTIONS FOR EACH LINK.
