Can you change keyboard without winterboard?
I use winterboard for icons & background(with almost no sacrifice to system performance), but I feel like themeing the keyboard adds more lag to the system than anything else Ive themed... so Im trying to figure out if there is a way to down load a winterboard theme and use those files by SSH them into a certain dir, or is it much more complicated then that?

I have been trying to do this exact same thing for quite some time with no luck. It should be possible but it seems most people just use winterboard to do this.

I think hes talking about a keyboard, not the keypad. Anyways, you can ssh a keyboard into your iphone. Theres two files, Keyboardlatin.artwork and keyboardcommon.artwork. theres a program called iphoneshop you can download to customize your artwork files but its pretty confusing on how to use it. You can download a keyboard from cydia, ssh into your phone and save all the .png files onto your computer and turn them into an artwork file. Then you can delete the keyboard you downloaded from cydia. Make sure to back up the original keyboard artwork files just in case. Good luck trying to figure it out, like i said, its very confusing.

If you want the storm keyboard from ebl's perfect storm, i have already created the .artwork files needed.

I will probebly eventually make .artwork files for my keyboard which you can find in the new themes thread...

I did this on before OS3.0 was released so not sure if it works on OS 3.0 or not as I'm am trialing winterboard for a bit to see if there is much lag with the iNav theme.
But anyways just SSH the Keyboard-Latin.artwork (I will post the link) file to replace the stock file and the keyboard will be skinned without winterboard. It worked great on 2.2 before I upgraded but like I said it is untested on OS3.
Does work in both portrait and landscape mode.
Preview pic of what keyboard it is below.
(Just to point out, I did not design this keyboard, only put it into .artwork files and adjust what was needed to work without winterboard.)
