Replacing Carrier Logo/Text

I've downloaded two .png files to replace my stock carrier text on my jailbroken iPhone 3G running 2.2 FW on the Vodafone.de network.

I tried to create a theme for winterboard but it didn't work. I also tried replacing the files in user/library/system/carrier bundle.bundle as well as the unknown.bundle Isomething like that) with no luck.

Can someone help a brother out with an updated location I need to put these in or a better tutorial on how to make it work with winterboard?
