Is it possible, well I am sure it is but how do I use just a part or two of a complete theme? Say I wanted only the battery.
Easy or complicated for somewhat a novice?

Very simple, actually. SSH into your iPhone, then go to:
/private/var/stash/Themes.asbcBh/

Find the parts in each folder you want. I believe the charge screen battery files are in:
/private/var/stash/Themes.asbcBh/(theme name)/Folders/SpringBoard.app
Listed as BatteryBG_1 to BatteryBG_17.

Create a new folder on your computer and name it to (something).theme along with Folders/SpringBoard.app in it, then copy the battery images over to SpringBoard.app. SSH the folder into your main theme folder, use Winterboard.

You can customize your own theme out of many themes using this, it's just like making stew. o_o
