Default How to install a .deb file (status notifier 2.11)

Alright so i'm trying to install status notifier 2.11. I use sn 2.10 now, but i want to install this lockscreen thing and i need sn 2.11 for it. I can download the file here: statusnotifier - Google Code
but i have no idea what to do with a .deb file! I use a mac (10.5.5). Do i need to open it on my computer before i ssh it into my iphone (2.2)? where do i put it in my iphone and how do i get it to work? I am not familiar with terminal and all the explanations i can find are laden with terminal-rich language. Can anyone explain me to me what i need to do and how i can do it in plain english?
    Thanks so much!!

I put the 2.11deb file in root/applications/statusnotifier with the other file. It will not overwrite they are not the same. Then i ssh'd Homescreen(should be called lockscreen)calender/weather/notifier(Homescreen2.0)into root/library/themes and respring. You also have to add en.plist to root/system/library/frameworks/UIkit.framework/DateFormats
before you can get full calender/notifer on lockscreen. If you don't the original date on lockscreen overlaps the theme. I actually just use the lockscreen full calender and email ect... notifier because i could not figure out how to get the change the city to my hometown.

Default here i will make it easy for you

Go and drop the.deb into /var/root/
    next
Using MobileTerminal (get if off Cydia if you have to) type in "su," then type in your password, which is "alpine" by default. Then type in the command dpkg -i /var/root/"what ever is the name".deb Wait for it to get done and its installed =) Hope this helps

Is there any possibility that this "i will make it easy for you" does not work as described? I have tried numerous times and the command cannot find the .deb file I placed in the iphone.Any help or further explanation would be greatly appreciated!

you have to make sure that you are in root access with the "su" command. Not sure if it matters, but i would make sure the upper and lower case lettering was the same also as the file.

Lastly in his description the paragraph got cut off and its dpkg -i. it kind of looked like - i so i wanted to clarify.

    hope that helps

Can anyone help me with a problem. I uninstalled the older 2.10 version through cydia, installed the 2.11 version .deb file using mobile terminal. The status notifier works but now I am missing the setting icon that used to be on my screen.

Thank you so much. Ive been beating my head against the wall trying to get Cydia to "AutoInstall" stuff when its just sooo much easier to manually install via prompt.

Still new to all this, but I just had to chime in my thanks.
