Default Why arent these icons showing with transparent backgrounds?

Why arent these icons showing with transparent backgrounds? I downloaded them from a post here and when viewing in Firefox or Adobe ImageReady they seem to show the icon only, i.e. no border, shading, etc. But when I copy them to my iphone and look at them they have the border, grey/black shading. This did not happen with all the icons I replaced with ones with transparent borders/background, just the above. See below. They even appear below correctly but not when installed on my iphone..

and... I have tried to change the PayPal icon to one of this same type but try as I may (and I was able to find where its icon is) it will not change to the one I replaced it with...

Lastly.. looking for icons like the above, i.e. no borders or background for the following apps (looked but have not been able to find). If you know where they might be found would appreciate it!

    - Handmark Express
    - iBowl
    - Snapture
    - Status Notifier
    - Intelliscreen
    - Stocks
    - KeyTasks

    THANKS!

here they are.. notice the icons:

    Banking
    eBay
    Google
    Flixster
    Google Earth
    Brain Toot
    Pac Man
    Solitaire City
    PayPal

The prior images I posted show they are with transparent backgrounds but when load in the iPhone they do not display like that. I know how to get them to the correct folders and others with transparent background display fine (examples: Winterboard, Settings, iReboot, etc.)

    THANKS!

Are you using Winterboard to change them....or replacing the apps icons itself?

Compare the 4th icon from the left in my first post (Google Earth) to the one in my last post with the screenshots (1st screen shot on the left, second row from top, second icon from the left). They are the SAME icon BUT the one on the iphone is showing up with a background. The file I posted in the first post is the same icon I put that is displayed in the screenshot. As well as the others.

    Replacing using iPhoneBrowser.

Odd thing is other icons I changed display as they should and do when viewing Firefox for example. i.e. transparent backgrounds.

Use winterboard to change the icons, The background is the overlay that apple uses on the app store apps to make them all uniform.

Hmmm... will give it a shot. Not sure how to set up in winterboard, will install another icon set and modify it to see if that will get me what I want..
THANKS and will keep you posted... of course suggestions as to how to achieve this are appreciated!

    \Library\Themes\'your theme'\Icons

All the icons go in a folder like that. Make sure they are spelled EXACTLY as they appear on the springboard. It is case sensitive also.

    for exapmle
    to replace the phone icon
the file needs to be Phone.png
and place that in the icons folder.
