Turn off default appstore icon "Shine" or "glare"
Hi,
I've been trying to figure out how to do this, and cant seem to find the solution anywhere on the web.
I want to turn off the default shine or glare that apple puts on all the iphone app icons.
I know how to do this through winterboard, by simply adding a new icon of my choice...but i really just want to keep the normal official icons, but just turn off the shine if possible..
I heard somewhere that you can edit the info.plist file by turning one string to False...i tried this, and it seems like it just does not work.
Anyone know how to turn the shine off? or any suggestions besides adding my custom icon through winterboard?
Thanks in advance!

Bro, each icon is a .png image.
You would have to take something like Photoshop and edit each icon....or create your own to look default but not "glossy".
There is no file you can edit to "turn" off the glare.

Thanks for the reply,
when icons are submitted to apple they do not have a shine or glare on the upper portion...
The iphone by default rounds the icon and adds a glare to the icon

There is an overlay and a drop shadow applied if I remember correctly. I think I read about it in a thread about winterboard image descriptions/locations.
Here it is:

Im not sure about app icons, but I know webclips have the gloss added when you create them. I actually had a problem because that gloss file became corrupt back with 1.1.4, so I had to find it and replace it...

You'll have to remember "webclips" are different in the fact that the icon is "created" as YOU add the bookmark.
He is NOT talking about webclips....he specifically said "Appstore Apps"....which have premade icons.
Excuse me if I am wrong....but I dont think so.

thanks for the reply guys,
Okay so i figured it out...i actually figured it out from that same site captain chaos posted.
Apple does add a gloss or shine to the icon.
so cpjr you are most definitely wrong. I actually replaced the default png file added by apple through winterboard...(the directions can all be found on that link by captaiin chaos.
By replacing that file with a completely transparent file...it overwrites the one with the overshine....so all my appstore apps have no shine on them...which i like
The app icons submitted to apple dont have the default shine and shadowing...there are three png files that are added to every appstore icon...so if you overwrite these..you can take them off

And its good to see when someone admits when they were wrong.

The only reason I know this is because I am trying to get rid of Winterboard and have been rummaging around finding answers. Unfortunately I have more questions than answers at this point so I am really only beginning.
If you could peek inside of my "iPhone Theme" folder on my hard drive you would scratch your head heh. It is loaded with all sorts of answers people seek. I am forgetful so I save webpages.

To turn off the gloss do the following steps.
Open--> info.plist
Right click-->add row
name it: UIPrerenderedIcon
right click on the new row-->choose "Value Type"--> boolean
Check the box that appears
save file
done
