Clock or Weather Widget without winterboard?
Is it possible to implement the Clock or Weather widget for your home screen (or lock screen) without using Winterboard?
If so, how?

Not really, why not use Winterboard?

because winterboard slows things down I would assume , that's why I removed winterboard and so far no slow downs

Correct.
I was playing with a buddy's 3g today. Straight from Apple, not jailbroken (no winterboard, bossprefs, etc. etc.).
Mine heavily modded with WB. Aqwoah theme/keyboard/dialer, sliders, no page dots, talking theme, clock widget, weather widget, etc. etc.
It's night and day difference in response time for apps...from the time of pressing an app icon to the time of the app loading (not considering the apps that 'cache' in memory between presses). It's 3-7 seconds of a delay. I only used the built in apps for comparison (no Cydia or AppStore apps).
If I turned off everything in WB on my phone, it was still slow, but better. If I uninstalled WB, it was _almost_ even.
So....since I hardly ever change themes, I could easily mod almost everything that I like to be modded manually via ssh. Save for the clock widget and weather widget....hence my asking.
I'm sure it can be done....it's a capability of something similar to Intelliscreen for the homescreen or lockscreen without all the 'bloat'.

you could see what files need changing in the "theme patch" and try SSH
to the correct folder
Being an i can be a lot of pressure. you have to live right up to the small point.

I would like to know this too if anyone has any idea how it works....I just restored and re-jailbroke again today to get a fresh start, but WB unfortunately does cause a bit of lag, probably due to the clock and weather widgets I have installed...One thing I would however like to know, is how you would accomplish changing app store app icons without winterboard?

If you want the widgets, you NEED Winterboard. Nuff said.

I say if you don't want winterboard do download it and do all your modding, then hide it.
It is something needed when your installing a theme, you can not use it but it's pretty much needed.Get streetwear for cheap here.

Unless you want to rip someone's code. BUT, I don't even know if Winterboard is open source...

It could be done, sure.....but if all your wanting to do is change something like the background, and your not theming EVERYTHING in Winterboard....I really dont think lag will be a problem. And besides, you gotta remember....if your gonna write code to do the same thing Winterboard is doing, then you could potentially cause the same lag.
I have EVERYTHING themed with Winterboard, along with catagories installed, 2 weather widgets, a clock widget, backgrounder, html homescreen, html lockscreen, TONS of apps. etc, etc.
Everything works great...compared to my completely stock 2.1...its very close. I have seen more "lag" issues from the jailbreak method used than from installing stuff.
