I am still not understanding. I have the latest version of Winterboard and still have a white background.

How can I make it transparent? I have a wallpaper that shows as the SMS app loads and would like the bubbles to lay on top of that, but as soon as the app loads...the white background appears. The wallpaper is different from my springboard wallpaper.

My loading wallpaper is in: /private/var/stash/Themes.TAaRQK/SandStone/Folders/MobileSMS.app and it is named Default.png

ok.. whatever theme your using, find the folder for it and place whatever picture you named smsbackground into it. Thats all. Make sure its named correctly with the right capitilizations and what not. Thats all.

Sweet it worked. The only thing I can't get it to do is be transparent. I tried dropping a completely transparent wallpaper into the folder and it came up white again. I then tried dropping a wallpaper that has a border around the outside of it, but transparent in the middle and it filled the transparent part inside of the border white.

    Thanks!

Just take a screenshot of your homescreen and use that as the SMSBackground, it will have the look of transparency
So long, and thanks for all the fish

    Default white box surrounding bubble

Long messages have a white surronding box over the Text bubble. See below:
This happens to me too and it only happens when the SMS bubble has that little arrow next to it. Whenever there's a phone number or link in the SMS, the little arrow shows and this is what seems to create the gray border around the bubble. How can this be fixed? I've attached a thumbnail where it happens to me too on my custom theme.

Does anyone know what the image size should be? When
I use a background from any of my other themes a portion of that picture is cropped on the bottom. Otherwise no problems with adding or using custom SMS backgrounds.

    Thanks in advance.

sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I thought it'd be easier than starting a new thread...

how do I change the SMS background WITHOUT using winterboard...I wanna stay away from WB as much as I can. IE, where can I find the .PNG I'm looking to replace when I SSH into my iPhone

Does anyone know how to change the Messages wallpaper background? I tried many different ways but nothing seems to be working. Trying to SSH manually or using winterboard and only can change the SMS bubbles, no background?

    Thanks!
