I just opened them up and on the right hand side there is a slider to adjust transparency. But that was Adobe Photoshop Elements

1.delete your bg layer, but make sure you have another layer above it with say...a circle. Or you could 2.set the pref when you create a new file to have a transparent bg. Then when your ready, choose "Save for web" from the file menu, and save as a .png 24bit.

I HAD A HARD TIME WITH THIS AS WELL THEN I DID A LITTLE BROWSING AND FOUND THIS WEBSITE. THE PERSON , I BELIEVE, DOES A GOOD JOB OF EXPLAINING HOW SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED. I USED IT AND IT WORKED GREAT FOR ME. CHECK IT OUT AND LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES.

I use Photoshop CS3.
Make sure you can see the checkerboard background (this means it's transparent). Click File, Save for Web and Devices.
Choose PNG, save-DoocesWild
