Icon Trouble
Recently I started making a theme. Now when I made theme in 1.1.x I never had this problem or saw this occur.
Some of my icons that aren't squares like the default iPhone icons will get a gloss "mask" over them making them he same shape as the default icons. Now my question is how might you get rid of this problem?
If pictures are required for you'll to know what I'm saying then I will post some later in the afternoon. Thanks.

if you are making your new theme to be compatible with winterboard you can fix the overlays.
I can help you if you need.

Yes, I'm making a theme that is compatible with Winterboard, I'm using FaceLift right now though.
I think the reason why the icons do what I am talking about is because they are AppStore Apps. The Default, Cydia, and Installer Apps Icons don't do it.
How might I go about fixing this.

there are 3 pngs that are located in the other.artwork file that directly mod appstore apps.
they are:
AppIconMask.png

AppIconOverlay.png

AppIconShadow.png

I modded my appstore apps by removing both the shadow & overlay.

I did a write up here:

hope this helps.

Winterboard already compensates for the App Store icons.
If you're seeing a difference in icons, update Winterboard on your phone.KillSign creator

I'm not having any luck getting the images to change once I create the new .png and place them in the UIImage folder of my iphone. The images I'm working with are the UIButtonBarxxxxx.png files. I'm sure mine are the same size as the originals, but they are not changing on the phone.
Note: the UIbuttonBarGarbageOpen/Closexx.png files worked, but none of the others seem to.
Thanks for your help,
John

Thanks for this. I have made these changes and they have removed the overlay and I have also changed the mask to have no rounded edges. However my App Store icons now look smaller than the rest of the icons. I have checked sizes and they are all the same size. Has anybody any idea of what is happening here? Thanks.

Thanks for this, but now I have a question.
I downloaded winterboard and have used to to modify many parts of my visual experience on my phone, including downloading the iGlassSol Overlay. I opened it up to discover the only thing it has is the AppIconOverlay.png file, which is great becuase I really like their overlay.
Problem is, when initialized, only SOME icons get the overlay. Others are unaffected. Any idea why and how to fix this? I have no other icon item checked in Winterboard, so I know that's not it.
Why is it that the overlay only affects some icons? Will I have to edit each icon manually and add the overlay?

Overlays only work on ipa's(appstore apps). To get the overlay on other icons you'll have to do it manually with photoshop or gimp.
