Thread: "Blank Space" app?
08-20-2007, 11:00 PM #1"Blank Space" app?
well im tryin to set up my springboard like this:
(made a pic cuz i cant explain things)
the more button would link to launcher so i can access all my homebrew apps.
so my question is, how can i add blank apps or spaces there so that my 'more' icon will stay to the far right?
is there a 'blank space' app (or something to that effect) that i could add to my displayorder.plist?

i thought about that, but then it would say demoapp 3 times...
and it would link to demo app when pressed.
i just want a space.
im thinking ill make a really long icon for the 'more' button that includes the blank space.
do you think that will work?

well i just tried that... the icon doesnt even move.
the phone cancels out the blank space..
tried transparent and black... wierd.
any other suggestions?
EDIT: nevermind... got it working.. kind of...
the icon is (almost, need to tweak more) moving where i want it, but the words under it stay in the first position. to the far left..

Here ya go...
this will work. add the more app 4 times and put this as the icon. it should piece together right. It will give the effect that the last row is one big more icon.

You can delete the text under the app by editing the LocalizedApplicationNames file under system/library/coreservices/springboard.app/english.lproj ......
Link to the file if you need it...
So just put 3 apps before your "more" app and then delete the names of them and use transparent icons... kinda a ghetto work around, but it would work...

Here is a pic of mine so you can see what I mean...

I just made an icon.png that was 60x90. That is tall enough to cover the text below it, but not anything else. There is an icon above my phone button for my Installer.app.
This way I can keep the clean look of my skin, and launch all my apps through launcher. If I need to run Installer, I know where the button is.

Edit: As far as making 'dummy' apps, it's quite easy, create three new apps, app1.app, app2.app and app3.app. Set them in your display order, add a transparent icon.png that covers the text and your "Launcher" app will show up where you want it to. These 'dummy' apps should not even try to launch, without an Info.plist file.

What happens when you install an app not in your DisplayOrder.plist file, it does just what you want.
So... fourth row of apps
[app1] [app2] [app3] [Launcher]

thats the thing tho.
I cannot get them to show up at all.
Can u explain how the dummy.app folder should be structured?
I have a folder name dummy.app in my applications folder.
inside dummy.app i copied demoapp and renamed it dummy.
Nothing shows up this way.
Am i doing it right? Please help
edit: well i tried it with and info.plist and it showed up on the springboard.
but i can execute it, which i dont want to be able to.
i think u said it wouldnt even run if it didnt have the info.plist
im confused :-/
Perhaps u can upload your dummy.app folder?

I can get items to show up in Launcher and not execute but not on the homescreen... odd. I think you need to find an actual dummy app that won't launch
Edit: I even tried to make a shell script that did nothing but it kept freezing.

I used the bottom left though as my launcherapp spot. You can see the icon because the icon image is the lower part of my screen thanks to digitalkids theme. Instead of using demoapp as that icon to get the wallpaper I just used Launcher and now when I need to get to my apps that are in Launcher I just click where the red X is on the second image. Its PERFECT!!!
I've also attached my plist so you can see what I did

Another option I have used is to make the blank space app an embark url link and then not list any url to link to in the info.plist file.
If clicked, it launches for a second then returns to the screen.
Not optimum, but functional.
