Tutorial: Custom Main Slider Image And Lock Screen

****TUTORIAL FOR ADDING A CUSTOM MAIN SLIDER IMAGE
AND FULL LOCK SCREEN WALLPAPER****

I will be showing you how to add this zipper as your unlock button, and a custom Wallpaper on your lock screen.

I know this TUTORIAL seems long, but it's pretty simple steps to follow, and well worth the time when you complete it.

EXAMPLE IMAGE USED FOR THIS TUTORIAL:
Click the image to open in full size.

REQUIREMENTS NEEDED:
1)Your phone has to be jail broken.
2)You have to have the "customize" application.
3)You need your own file transfer program (FTP) access, or WinSCP. (if you're confused about the FTP part, then refer to step #1
4)WIFI connection access.

If you have everything listed above, then read on... If you're not sure about the FTP part, then again, please refer to step # 1.

Ok, so here we go...

First and foremost, When connecting to the FTP through your device, and staying connected. You will need to know a little trick.
Always set your device to NEVER auto lock. You can find that in SETTINGS. This will make you stay connected, and not get that pesky connection error in your FTP

Ok.

Step #1:
To upload and host images for your iphone or ipod touch, you will need some sort of FTP access. I use CUTE FTP, but you can use whatever you like. (WinSCP is recommended for newbies).

Step #2:
Before you can login to your FTP, you will need to figure out what the Local IP Address is on your iphone or ipod touch. To do this, you go to Settings, WIFI, then make sure your connected by looking for a little check mark on the left hand side. Once you figure out which connection you are using. Click on the blue round arrow on the right hand side. And within that it will tell you what your IP Address is. I have posted an example image below to help you if you're confused.

FIND YOUR IP EXAMPLE:

Click the image to open in full size.

Step #3:
Once you download and install which ever FTP program you chose, and you figure out your IP ADDRESS, you will need to login. I have provided the username and password information listed below, which everyone will need to use so you can login. (you will use this for which ever FTP program you are using.)

FTP LOGIN INFO:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hostname: Add your local IP Address that I had you find on your iphone or pod touch.
username: root
password: alpine
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok... Now that you are able to access your iphone or ipod touch files through an FTP, you can get started.

Step #4:
For your first time I will provide, a custom slider and lock screen wallpaper for you to practice off of:

Here are the images you can use to practice with: To save them, right-click and save both images to your computer

Click the image to open in full size.

and

Click the image to open in full size.
NOTE:
This is the image without the time, and date. and the image is not flattened. So all the layers are still their for editing the image if you want to use it. (please do not remove my copyright).

Step #5:
Before you add your new custom main slider image, and lock screen wallpaper we're going to be getting rid of the old default look.

Click the image to open in full size.

Quote:
***********THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT SO READ CAREFULLY*********

Posted below, I'm providing you with the SpringBoard.strings file that is already edited. And the bottombarbkgndlock image with the transparency already set to 0%.
If you want to take the easy route and save time, just save these 2 files, and all you have to do is follow the directions below on where to put them.

But,

For those of you who want to do the editing on their own, I'm going to add the directions on what to do.

This file is what will get rid of the "slide to unlock text." I have already edited the file for you.
http://www.technicdesigns.com/misc/SpringBoard.strings

^ right click and save as.

This image I set the transparency to 0% so that you will not see the bottom bar on the lock screen,
http://www.technicdesigns.com/misc/b...rbkgndlock.png

^ to save it, right click and save target as.

Quote:
NOTE:
If you saved the 2 files above, then disregard the next following steps, aside from where those files you saved need to go.
In your FTP go to:

/System/Library/Frameworks/TelephonyUI.framework/

And look for the image named: bottombarbkgndlock.png. You need to save that image out of your FTP and onto your computer.

Then open Photoshop, or Fireworks, etc... (whichever photo editing program you use.)

Now bring the image bottombarbkgndlock.png into the program your using, and set the transparency of the image to 0% so the image is completely transparent. Or you can just delete the entire image out.

EXAMPLE:
Click the image to open in full size.

After you set the transparency to 0% or you delete the image. (whichever way you choose.)
Save your document as a .PNG file and make sure your canvas is set to transparent. This is very important. or your image will show up as a big white box.

After you saved that image, re upload it back into the FTP, in the same folder you took it from. It will ask you if you want to overwrite and replace the original image. Select YES!

If you saved the bottombarimage.png transparent image I provided way above, just find:

/System/Library/Frameworks/TelephonyUI.framework/

and overwrite the bottombarimage.png image, with the one I provided you.

Next is the "slide to unlock text"

To get rid of that text, you will need to download the zip file below. (or the file that is already edited is listed above.)

Click Here To Download the unedited version.

Once you download that, extract it to your desktop, and right click on the SpringBoard.strings file and hit open if it asks to browse for a program to open it with hit yes, then select Note Pad.

Now that you have it open in Note pad, it will look like a mess of words. Just go to Edit, then find. located at the top of note pad. Now search for "slide to unlock." once you find it, delete the text out so it will look like this:

<string></string>

Now save the file.

And go back to your FTP and look for:

/System/Libary/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj/SpringBoard.strings

Now you want to overwrite the SpringBoard.strings file, with the one you just edited, or with the edited one I provided way above.

Turn off, you device, and back on. Now your "slide to unlock text" and the bottom bar image should be removed.

*******************************Half Way Point*****************************

Ok if you made it this far, you're doing good.. The next few steps get easier...

Step #6:
Now what you want to do is host the new custom images within your FTP.

The first image is the main slider image, the file you can name whatever you want, but I named it:
"zipper_slider.png"

This image is to be placed into:
/private/var/root/Library/Customize/MainSliderImages/Backup/ in your FTP

Or you can create your own folder to put the image into but it has to be in atleast the MainSliderImages folder.

Now for the lock screen wallpaper. I named it "Example_lockscreen1". But again, you can name it whatever you want.

This can be very confusing because there is a lot of different folders named the same thing throughout the directories in your FTP. This will be hard to explain so I will try my best.

Navigate all the way to the "beginning" of all your directories in the FTP. Depending on which program you ended up downloading all depends on how you navigate yourself back to the beginning, so it's hard for me to explain how to do that.. To help you know what the beginning looks like folder wise on all FTP's, I have added an example image for you to look at, so you know what to look for.

FOLDERS IN THE BEGINNING OF FTP

Click the image to open in full size.

Once in the beginning of your FTP, go into Library then you should see a folder named Wallpaper. Upload the example_lockscreen.png into that folder.

Step #7:
Now to set your new wallpaper to show up, go to Settings, then Wallpaper, and select the one you uploaded to your FTP.

EXAMPLE IMAGE:
Click the image to open in full size.

Now:

For the main slider image, go to Customize, then scroll down to mainslider, and select the image you uploaded to your FTP.

EXAMPLE IMAGE:
Click the image to open in full size.

Go back to your main front screen where all your icons are at, and let the phone or ipod touch auto reset itself. Next hit the button on the top of your iphone, or ipod touch which locks your device. then hit the button to open your screen back up and "BAM!" You should now have your very own LOCK SCREEN WALLPAPER, AND CUSTOM SLIDER IMAGE!

Please understand. I'm by no means an iphone or itouch pro. I have had my device for only about a week now lolz. So this might not be the best or easiest way to execute this task. I'm only trying to help out, because this took me days of research to figure out, so I'm trying to save others the time that I wasted.

So if I'm not 100% accurate, just please acknowledge that I'm just trying to help out the best I can.

If this helped you out, don't be shy on hitting the thanks button for me

Make sure you have the BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH installed, and SSH turned on.

I'll upload the image, and string file you need, and add it to the tutorial, so ppl can grab it, rather then having to go through all the bull ish.
