hmmm.. instead going to summerboard, go to CUSTOMIZE
there...
1. create new folder (just name them randomly) there... for example 'Random'
2. Create new folders again in the 'Random' folder. These folders should be named or labeled according to the original title in Customize.app (find it under system images and status bar images categories)
For example, if you want to upload the battery images.. create 'Battery' folders... you should use the exact same names. Consider letters, caps and even spaces.
Here are the lists if you don't want to waste your time looking over customize.
SYSTEM IMAGES
Badge
Battery
BottomBar
CallSlider
DeviceLockKeypad
HighlightMask
Hud
MainSlider
PowerBar
PowerSlider
Sound
VolumeFill
VolumeFillRight
VolumeKnob
STATUS BAR IMAGES
Airplane
Alarm
Bars
Bluetooth
Carrier
CarrierO2
CarrierO2ie
CarrierOrange
CarrierTIM
CarrierTMobile
CarrierTMobileGermany
Edge
HeaderBattery
iSlskStatusBarIcons
LockIcon
StatusBarBG
TaskbarNotifierCall
TaskbarNotifierGPRS
TaskbarNotifierMail
TaskbarNotifierPLAY
TaskbarNotifierSMS
TaskbarNotifierTTY
WiFi
3. Then.... name the files you want to upload base on the folder.. for example.. battery. You should name them Battery1.png, Battery2.png, Battery3.png, Battery4.png etc
It applies the same with the other like Bars then Bars1.png, Bars2.png
voila... you're done!!
hope this helps...

before we go too far... when you said 'battery', did u mean the small battery located on the status bar just across the time or battery as appears when you charge your iphone??

hmmm... actually it kinda works for me by creating new folder titled 'Pink' and another folder titled 'Battery' inside it...
Name your battery images from Battery1.png to Battery17.png (it depends on your images really... mine is up to 17 images).. Those images go to the Battery folder.
NB : it should be Battery1.png and NOT BatteryBG_1.png

mm.. actually it goes to /var/mobile/Library/Customize.. well, i put mine in there.. (it's without the '/private' section but i think it works the same..)
I believe you can't just change the name over Fugu or even Cyberduck.. When it comes to this, i usually just delete those files after i copy those earlier and paste them to desktop. Then, i change the name of the files and copy them to the right folders. I'm not quite of a 'teacher' so i'm not good at explaining stuffs. just tell me if you don't get it..
speaking of ringtones, you could always use Ringtones.app. I tend to put it as song in iTunes... then i open the Ringtones.app and convert them to ringtones. But it's just me...
me if you think i help you.. ^^
