I've always wished that the iPhone UI had the option for Landscape viewing but since that never happened, I figured the next best thing might be a theme. Since I haven't seen an attempt so far I figured I'll give it a shot.

Now it's just a start with "borrowed" icons (Sexy Realize) and custom status images and needs MUCH more tweaking but here is the proof of concept.

Let me know what you guys think of the idea and depending on the outcome, I'll work on assembling a full working theme.

One "bug" that is not fixable is the cal date....ah well.

the concept is nice, hopefully if this gets picked up by the DevTeam, they'll be able to make the whole thing work properly, messaging and all.

While I don't believe the UI can be tweaked to display landscape, devTeam or not, I'd love to see someone give it a shot.

However, my theme is very plausable is "Categories" dev is willing to implement Horizontal viewing.

I'll see what I can do in the meanwhile.

y dont u jsut rotate all the icons in the theme but im noob so if thats not the case then ill shut up now,

if u go to utube and search 3g iphone concept you will see this in action, but member its jsut a concept

its not quite much of "proof of concept" when u dont have anything figured out really other then rotating everything. but what sucks is once u launch the program, it'll still open standard upright. plus holding it sideways kinda isn't all that great

I like they way it looks, though I agree with everyone that it might be weird holding it sideways, but we can all adjust. :P

As for the Calender... How does the iPhone get the numbers for calender? Theoretically, couldn't you change the font set a bit, i.e. rotate all the numbers in the .ttf file, rename and save it, and then redirect calender to use its own font set?

I'm just throwing an idea out; I suck as far as coding goes ^^;

well, i have this hack which disables the date on the calendar icon...
so if you want u can give me the theme and i can package it together with those files. then u could put a random number (maybe 69 :P) onto the calendar and then itll stay the same day but itll be horizontal...
get it?

Alright, I'll make a theme that actually fits the landscape design idea and see how functional it can get.
