Can someone point me to the png for the background image behind the date and time on the lock screen?

I've tried making this image "clear" and it doesn't change...

if you respring it will take effect, otherwise you can just restart your phone. just use killboard or respring to do the job.

yes, please post it here. I've been waiting forever too for this

You have to use a program called iPhoneShop to extract the ".artwork" files which you can then edit in your choice of program.

I cannot find this file. what is the path?

after a few hours of frustration trying to get the java iphoneshop to work, i finally modified the png in the file

here is the Other.artwork file with the png set to 1% transparency as stated above.
this is from my phone on 1.1.4 , and goes in /System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework
