Fail button in posts

dont ya hate it when someone says something so idiotic that you can only yell at them?

well why waste the post? just add a button right next to the thanks button that adds 1 fail to their fail count

this would save many crowding posts that really dont contribute to anything

This post would not apply if there was a 'fail' button I could click.

people are going to be negative no matter what... you cant go through and infract everyone for replying like that and wasting space. all that those kinds of posts do is stray away from the topic. if someone feels the indubitable need to put down the post why not save forum space and stay on topic by letting them just hit the button

i know it seems like promoting negativity but its really just keeping things in order, this way if someone doesn't hit the button and posts a putdown they can be infracted for unnecessary rudeness or something like that

^Understandable Him121213....but, look at it this way.

It wont keep people from posting the "crap", as they either feel they are correct, feel the need to express themselves and/or just plain rude, ignorant people. And, it wont keep people from replying back or flaming them, because most people who are/feel insulted by such posts are going to feel the need to express their opinion back alongside giving them a "fail" as they will have to defend or explain their stance. Maybe having a "fail" count would marginally decrease the chances of those posts and/or actually have an effect on a small number of members....but I doubt it would be enough to make a difference.

I mean, the fact that we hand out infractions for breaking the rules doesnt seem to help change anybody's mind...they still do what they're gonna do.

Just my .02 cents.

well i can see them doing that, but if it comes with more of a punishment maybe it will be more effective.

1..2..3 strikes you're out

if they post a negative comment instead of "fail" them
if they do both

it just seems like a better solution to letting things get nasty and useless. look at all of the threads that you close for getting unruly. that wouldn't need to happen anymore with this ruleset. if people have a bad thread to begin with it gets closed anyway. i think that if this is used it will keep things on topic and it will make mmi an easier and more attractive place to go and get help or give help. i have herd many times that people dont like coming here because they have to sift through useless post after useless post

^Well, it is 3 strikes your out.

But its 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Yes some people say they dont like coming here because of crappy/useless posts, We have also had a handful of members give us the finger and leave because they got an infraction or say "Our rules are too tight" as it is....so what do you do? There has to be a happy medium somewhere and your never gonna make everyone happy.

And I can assure you we hand out alot more infractions for that kind of stuff then you may think. But we also try to take into consideration each member, how long they've been here and posts (track record basically)....I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and hand out alot of "warnings" via PM first.

^^^ i can understand that, but i can also see that people who just up and leave because the rules are too tight are not any value to the community. most of the people who do that are warez supporters anyway, so if they don't like it they can go to xsellize

but really people who cant follow the rules usually don't have a good track record. so if people are going out of their way to say something ridiculous it should be deleted anyway, leaving no reason to need to stand their ground and explain their stance. this is an apple products and technology discussion forum, if something is not about technology or in the chit chat section it shouldn't be anywhere here.

The other thing you gotta remember is how the forum is structured per p_f and Cash. We gotta cover costs for running it, which are high....and we need the traffic to do so.

Other places like Xsomething run on donations verses ad generation traffic and have about 1/4 the number of members which works for them.

If we had their #'s, something would have to give to pay for the site. But thats out of "our" hands I just work here

okay, i might have to give the idea to higher authority

i know how the site is run, and funded. i also click the ads 100x per day (sometimes more)

implementing some new rules is not going to hurt the community as much as nonsense, people will want to come around more if they are going to get info that they can use instead of info of how much of a D-bag someone is
