I say no, what are the difs between the two, beside the change in appearance, 3G and GPS chip?
Perhaps a subforum under Gen. iPhone, but that would be as far as it would need to go.And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream!

Pretty good differences.
The 3g phones will all be running 2.0, the 2g will be primarily running 1.1.4 as 2.0 doesn't like 2g phones as much with the old processor. So they'll be on different firmwares for one......
These differences in firmwares will cause different problems for each phone. It's like having two different model of cars and having them both together in the same forum. The 3g issues with the newer processor will differ from the 2g issues on the old processor.
There will be a rash of "3g connectivity issues" threads that the 2g users will have to sort through.
I could make the list pretty long. Hardware issues not even mentioned yet........
If you'd like to see an example, EiCafe already has this system in place.iMac 27" i5 quad 2.8Ghz (1TB), MacBook Pro 17" 2.6, iPhone 4s

.....and by example only, for every 9000 people that run customize on 2G, 1000 can't ever get it to work right. All phones are different by the way they are set up. Lot's of people have had issues with 2.0 and it is too early to tell if it is how they were jailbroken or what the issue is.
If yours works, good for you. This thread is not for you, scoot along.iMac 27" i5 quad 2.8Ghz (1TB), MacBook Pro 17" 2.6, iPhone 4s

Yes this thread is for me as i have a iphone, there for i can have a say.. Sorry but im getting a feeling you not liking the fact people are not agreeing with you. there for your coming across little agressive and argumentative and arrogent. (sorry if iv got you wrong, but thats how its reading.)
I do agree there will be problems both sides, but end of day its still a iphone still does the same job, and apart from only having 3g i cant see any other reason why a separate section is needed.

Keep it civil. By your logic, we should have a different forum for each type of problem experienced on the iPhone. From a modding perspective, there's only one thing that differentiates the 2G's from the 3G's at this point in time: the new bootloader. 2G's under 2.0 can be unlocked, 3G's cannot. Again, at this point in time. They use exactly that same firmware, and experience exactly the same problems.

Agreed... I think as long as people are specific with their subject lines "My 3G iPhone is...." then it will help the confusion.

No, maybe a separate forum for GPS features or something but i don't even think it should go that far.
Their basically the same think and network issues can be discussed in the carrier specific forums.

I think its a good idea, and i was thinking the same thing. I think they are very different and it would make things easier. Although its been working fine the way it is, it would be much easier to navigate IMO.

But guys, we arent talking about comparing a Razr and an iPhone. They are pretty much alike. If you have an iPhone 3G and a 1st Gen iPhone with 2.0 firmware, there are 2 diffs: GPS and 3G. Nothing that different...

But now we have the added aspect of 3rd party 2.0 apps and 3rd party 1.1.4 apps aswell.

You might wanna tell PF that......
Because he seems to agree with me that the two phones are completely different, and for some reason the DEVS agree with me also since we do not have an unlocked 3g phone yet. The rest of the entire free world seems to agree since they do not have unlocked phones either.
These are two different devices. I said that in my very first response that the hardware issues between the two are going to cause conflicts specific to each phone.iMac 27" i5 quad 2.8Ghz (1TB), MacBook Pro 17" 2.6, iPhone 4s

Maybe a sub-forum that says "3g Specific Topics." Why didn't we make a poll here hmm?
