Today I opened rock and got about 6 updates from the top of my head, including UIKit Rock and Cydia.
When I updated it removed 2 core files from my iphone (3g 3.1.3) and failed to download and install 2 of the 6 updates.
It told me UIKit needed a soft reboot and once I did it rebooted the whole phone (!not a respring)
Now my phone wont boot anymore, it shows the apple logo and just turns off after 3 seconds orso.
Just thought I'd get the warning out before this happens to anyone else.

Same thing happened to me. Luckily I was able to restore and rejailbreak. In the process of setting everything back up. Sigh...

this is why you update cydia applications and utilities using Cydia, not rock

I agree. I have never used rock up until a few weeks ago. I thought I would try it out. I will never use again after what happened.

no rock is a great program with many useful applications, but sadly, they are different utilities....general rule of thumb, update your applications with the program you installed it with.

Same thing happened to me...sort of. I had 6 updates in Rock, so I told it to Update. I got an error on the firmware-sbin_0-1_iphoneos-arm.deb file, but it DID NOT ask me to reboot.
So I jumped over to Cydia, saw the updates and hoped Cydia would fix it (with an overwrite or something), but Cydia gives me the same error.
Any idea how to fix this without having to re-jailbreak?kwickone I.T.H.

That's what happened to me. Late last night I saw the 6 updates in Rock. I got the error on the same file. It did ask me to soft restart which it did and worked fine. I also went to Cydia thinking it may fix it but ended up with the same error.
Then this morning, I did a hard restart and was going to go back in cydia to see if the issue would correct itself. But when I tried to restart it would only get to the silver apple logo and then shut off. If you haven't restarted your phone yet, I would advise not too. Maybe there is a way you can correct it.

This happened to me as well my phone would not boot up after rock updates. I have rejailbroke my phone and everything is ok now. I'll be sticking to cydia from now on.

Unfortunately, this happened to me...
How did you re-jailbreak? it updated me to 3.1.3 and am not sure what to use to jailbreak?
Also, once you re-jailbroke(sp?) did it put all your apps back on?

Have tried it out today thanks to Rock!
(When having an error on Windows (like I had on 7) set the app to run as win98 and it will work okay)
