Default Hacked, jailbroken, and unlocked phones ... but defeated by ringtones???

It utterly amazes me that even the latest firmwares and 3g hardware can be overcome, but no one has presented a clear, simple, and direct method to install custom ringtones! Without buying them from itunes, all I see are token, convoluted methods involving more software, conversion, etc. You can say what you want, but with firmware 1.0.2, all I had to do was run iBrickr and copy any .mpr OR .mpg into the ringtones folder and that's it! The new tone was visible and immediately usable, no complicated mess.

Is this the impossible task? Why hasn't anyone figured this out? Help please?

    Yes..Into root/private/var/stash/Ringtones.******
    But NOT: root/var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/Ringtones/

And you still need to use iTunes to sync music, unless you are using some other player...
