HELP! SSH'ed m4ps Not Playing - For a new app!

I downloaded m4p song previews from itunes. If I rename them to m4r, itunes plays then and won't mind syncing them.

If I ssh them into Library/Ringtones, when you select the ringtone (in sounds), it won't play.

Is it a audio protection problem? If so why doesn't itunes care?
How can I get this to play?

I have an iphone 3g, 2.0.3 firmware.

The reason I want this, is because I've developed a program for my iPhone to download previews directly to /Library/Ringtones/, via the iPhone, and what is downloaded won't play.

I would say it's a permissions issue or a linking issue because it was not added by the firmware. But this is just a guess...
