..ohh, I figured out my issue! Even though I had 'manually manage music' checked, I still had to go in the ringtones tab and check 'sync ringtones' before doing everything. Works for me now.

Right click on the file and select Properties. Then you will see the entire file name, including the extension, in the field up top. Then you can change m4a to m4r and click apply.

Or.. if you WANT to have ALL file extensions displayed on every file (which I think is pretty handy), click on My Computer, then up top; Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab, and you're going to scroll down in the window to where it says 'Hide extensions for known file types' and UNcheck that and hit apply.

Weelll.. I don't have a machine with Vista on it to dabble with. BUT, it's as easy as typing 'show file extensions in vista' into Google. :P lol

Apparently you click the Layout button (to the left of Views) in any folder window. There you can select Folder Options, then click on the View tab, then uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types'.

It all works in iTunes 8. People who are having issues need to make sure it's 30 second or less. Otherwise it will not show up on your iPhone.

In my iTunes (8.0.1.11) I don't have "create an AAC version" only create MP3 version. Any ideas?
