    Default iPad 1 + 5.1 + Redsn0w: Lost Apps, Unable to Restore/Reset--Bricked?
    Hi All:

I have used Redsn0w in the past to jailnbreak iDevices, but I'm having some major issues this time. On my iPad 1 with 5.1, I used Redsn0w to jailbreak it and lost all of my stock apps (Safari, Settings, etc.). I have spent the last couple of hours attempting to get it back to factory settings so that I could restore from iCloud with no luck. I've tried the following to fix the problem:

    1. Re-jailbroken a number of times.
    2. Booted tethered a number of times.
    3. Downloaded the firmware and did the Shift+restore trick in iTunes and gave it the 5.1 firmware--it says an unknown error occurred.
    4. Rick-clicked on iPad and restored to an older backup with hopes of then restoring to factory. Firmware was not changed in the process.

What else can I try to get this thing back to factory so I can restore it from iCloud? I'm out of ideas... did I permanently mess it up?

    Thank you!

Why don't you just use a regular stock firmware from iTunes? It doesn't really matter. Errors from iTunes like that aren't even uncommon. Do you have the latest Redsn0w and iTunes?

That's what I'm trying to do, but it keeps giving me an "unknown error" when trying to restore with stock firmware within iTunes.

    Reinstall iTunes.

Completely reinstalled iTunes and rebooted. Same "unknown error"..... more thoughts?

Have you tried just clicking restore in iTunes and letting iTunes download the firmware itself?

Yes, I've tried that. Just did it again for good measure. Same error (error 21). It happens when it attempts to verify the update with Apple.

Looks like this PC was the issue... tried it again on a different PC and it's working now!
