Thread: iPhone 3GS redsnow allocate 233 error

Default iPhone 3GS redsnow allocate 233 error
I'm trying to jailbreak & unlock my iPhone 3GS using redsnow and I keep getting the allocate (233) error and redsnow quits. I have iOS 5.1 with baseband 5.16.05 - I'm not sure how this whole baseband updating thing works but I've read around that redsnow will automatically install the iPad baseband (6.15.00) for me but I can never get that far.

So does anybody know how to fix this error? I really need to get my phone working.

Redsnow acts strange when trying to install cydia and iPad baseband at the same time on 5.1. You could always downgrade to 4.1 and do it there (or any other firmware you have shsh for). Do you know if you have a old or new bootrom 3GS?

I have a old bootrom. So is it a must that I downgrade to 4.1 or is there anything else that I can do to get it done?

You could probably make a custom 5.1 with the latest snowbreeze with the iPad baseband installed in the custom firmware (pick expert mode) and restore to that in iTunes.

So that will give me the ability to unlock it so I can use it with another carrier?

Yes, but there is no going back once you install the iPad baseband and you will lose gps for apps like Tom Tom.

Do you know of any tutorials that can possibly help me out?

Not for 5.1 specifically but using snowbreeze is pretty straightforward and you can always google for a tutorial, even if it is not specifically for 5.1 it can show you the steps involved.

What do you not understand about holding the shift button while clicking restore in iTunes?
He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.
