I am trying to downgrade my iPhone 4 from 5.1 firmware to 5.01 or 5.0. I am using redSn0w to create a No_BB custom ispw.
I keep getting this weird error message that makes no sense to me. "This option can only be used for iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 ISPWs"
But I have an iPhone 4... so what am I doing wrong.
The file is iPhone3,3_5.01_9A405_restore.ispw
I had my phone jailbroken for a while, and then I restored it because I was having some software issues, and I was too lazy jailbreak again... and now, my desire for a modified phone is back, but I can't do much with 5.1. I am trying to downgrade so I can do fun things.
any help is much appreciated.

I am also having this issue. I am trying to downgrade from 5.1 to 5.0.1.
However, my file name is iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw
I am currently running on the tethered jailbreak of 5.1.

Do y'all have the shsh blobs saved if ya don't you will not be able to downgrade to that.

I was under the impression (and quite possibly the wrong impression) that the SHSH blob was saved automatically by redsn0w when I did my jailbreak. I used TinyUmbrella to locate my SHSH from Cydia. Under TinyUmbrella, it states that I have two saved SHSHs.
1. iPhone4CDMA 5.0.1 (9A405)
2. iPhone4CDMA 5.1 (9B176)
Thank you for a speedy reply.

1. Backup my device (done)
2. Download latest version of TinyUmbrella (done)
3. Run TinyUmbrella (done)
4. Using TinyUmbrella, press 'Start TSS Server' and choose my SHSH. I chose my 5.0.1 SHSH but I get an error. My error reads, "The iPhone "Curtner's iPhone" could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible."
I hate feeling so ignorant when doing something so simple. Is the file I need to select the iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw file? Or should I be looking for something else?
Thank you for guidance!
EDIT: Susty...How would I have obtained an iPhone 4S GSM SHSH while jailbreaking with an iPhone 4 on Verizon? Am I SOL?

For your phone, you want one called
03-27-2012, 02:28 PM #9
My *.ipsw file says 4,1_5.0.1_9A405
My *.shsh file says 3484041129230-iphone3,3-5.0.1.shsh
However, I cannot select the *.shsh file when shift+clicking restore in iTunes when using TinyUmbrella. Please tell me I'm not overlooking something so incredibly stupid.

You have to stitch the Ipsw to the firmware first, however your using THE WRONG FIRMWARE You have one for an iPhone 4S and you have an iPhone 4 CDMA... This is why you have the error about being for the wrong phone.

Well that's no good. Is there a way to get the correct firmware now that I'm already 5.1 and they're done signing 5.0.1 (I don't even know what that means).
And also, how would I have gotten the iPhone 4S firmware to begin with if the only way I obtained my SHSH is through jailbreaking?
03-27-2012, 02:34 PM #12
You've obtained an iPhone 4S ipsw, you HAVE iPhone 4 shsh's...
You need the correct Ipsw for the correct phone as the iPhone comes in gsm & CDMA versions... Neither are compatible with the other.

I understand what I have and what I need. My concern now is whether or not the file I need is still obtainable. Do you know if it is?

I now understand that I somehow obtained an iPhone 4S firmware that I don't need since I use an iPhone 4.
I stitched my 5.0.1 SHSH file to my 5.0.1 IPSW that you linked me. I ran into a few errors along the way and navigated through a few others. In the end I was unable to downgrade my device. I'm sure it is possible, but working 75hrs a week makes it hard for me to find the time to sit with my phone and figure it out on my own. I will work on it this weekend.
Again, I thank you for your help.

Hello can you help me aswell?
I Have a iphone 4 running GSM I think , (if thats the standard) and I want to get 5.0.1 on my phone and jailbreak it.
Should i first upgrade to 5.1 then downgrade to 5.0.1 or can i upgrade 4.1 to 5.0.1 ?
whats the file url for the 5.0.1 GSM at the apple servers?
Will i lose my base band if i upgrade to 5.0.1 and jailbreak it? (its locked now)
But i have jailbroken it now and it works (with service and base band)

Do you have the blobs for 5.0.1? And what baseband do you have. Sounds like ya may have to perserve that baseband.
