Sorry... The phone is already jailbroken. The firmware is at 4.0.1. I want to know if I can use redsn0w? I read somewhere in the forum that your phone needs to be on 4.1 to use redsn0w and I'm trying to find out if that's true. So the real question is: What the minimum firmware version on a 3GS to use redsn0w?
Thanks.
I have the same question as well. I have a JB/unlocked 3GS on 4.0.1 and I want to upgrade to 5.0.1 so I can use iOS 5. My firmware is 05.13.04 so am I able to jailbreak and unlock it? If so, how?
You need to use the latest version of snowbreeze or redsnow and make a custom firmware then. That way you can preserve your modem firmware since that modem firmware is able to be unlocked. DO NOT update or restore to a regular 5.0.1 firmware as that will update your modem firmware and you wont be able to unlock anymore (at least not easily).
After making the custom firmware open itunes, hold shift (windows) or option (mac) and press restore. A window will pop up where you can choose the custom fimrware you made.
OK,,,Run iTunes and navigate to the custom firmware that I made with redsnow. Then after the custom firmware is install will the phone be jailbroken and updated to 5.0.1? Also will the phone be unlocked and will GPS still work? thanks
If you use redsnow cydia wont be installed automatically after the custom restore, so you would need to run it again after to install cydia. If you use snowbreeze make sure you chose not to activate the custom firmware. Snowbreeze adds cydia itself so after the custom restore cydia will be there. After that install ultrasnow from cydia to unlock and you are done. GPS should work fine. That only breaks if you install the ipad baseband to unlock, which you do not have to do sice you have a good modem firmware for unlocking already.
