Unhappy iPhone 4 4.3 gsm updating to 5.0.1 hicups

Hello everyone. Hope I provided enough background info on my situation so that this can be figured out.
Im using my Macbook running OS X 10.5.8. My phone is an iPhone 4 that was running 4.3 (8F190) with a baseband of 04.10.01

I am using Gevey to use the phone on T-Mobile. Bought the phone on Ebay and it had Cydia installed when I first booted it up. To get the phone going at first I just had to follow the steps of calling 112 and toggle on and off airplane mode till it found T-Mobile and it ran pretty well. Only thing that gave me trouble was that whenever I tried to run Cydia it would crash and return to home screen. (Same with Safari, but that is the least of my worries right now) So I never had anything on the phone that is not saved on my computer somewhere.

I went to a few sources to confirm and learn the steps to updating to 5.0.1 and preserving the 04.10.01 baseband so my Gevey would still work. I followed these steps on the webpage below using the newest version of Redsn0w.

iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone Without Updating the Baseband (Mac) [5.0.1]

As iTunes finished updating the phone with the NO_BB IPSW that Redsn0w created, iTunes displayed that the SIM card is not supported (cause its the Gevey with a T-Mobile card in there.) I am now not sure what to do to get the phone activated and run on the T-Mobile network.

    *edit*
Also, I could probably toss in a friends SIM card from their gsm iPhone and activate the phone that way. Though if I can get it to work through using Redsn0w or other software I think I would want to go that route.

What I want to make sure is that when I put my Gevey & T-Mobile card in, will I be able to follow the steps of calling 112 and toggling on and off airplane mode will the phone pick up the T-mobile network?
    *end edit*

Do I now jailbreak using Redsn0w or ...? I just want to be sure that I can keep my baseband and not loose it.
Please help me out here. Thanks in advance!

If you dont have an ATT sim to activate with you can use redsnow to hactivate it by jailbreaking.

The post sticked on ya Simon (Can I Unlock?) is just making me scratch my head a bit. Will my Gevey no longer work if im on 04.10.01 and iOS 5.0.1?

As long as you have preserved your baseband with a custom 5.0.1 firmware then your gevey will still work.
