    Default STUCK w/ HYBRID tethered jailbreak of 5.0/5.0.1 used Redsn0w

    I have a HUGE problem, I did the tethered jailbreak just last week, it was on iOS 5.0, it's AT&T and I used Redsn0w to jailbreak using the 5.0.1 software. The jailbreak was successful and everything works fine, the phone still says 5.0 on the about page.

    My real problem is I can't restore. No matter what I do, I have tried EVERYTHING. If you had/have this problem or have/had solved this problem PLEASE HELP!

    These are probably wrong settings, this is where I think the problem might be. It is the host file contents:

    ##
    # Host Database
    #
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
    ##
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
    ::1 localhost
    fe80::1%lo0 localhost

    I've tried restoring it from the normal state when the phone is on, now I've tried everything with both 5.0 and 5.0.1. It almost works with 5.0.1 but leaves my phone in recovery mode and I get iTunes error 21, so I put it in DFU mode and I get error 1600, so then I tried to customize the hosts file, removing gs.apple.com but it still gives me the 1600 error.

    Right now all I want is a FRESH RESTORE. I do not need to preserve my baseband, just the simplest way to get the phone back to a fresh Apple firmware.

    Open tiny umbrella
    Click on advanced
    deselect the box that says "set hosts to cydia on exit"
    Close tiny umbrella and proceed with the restore to 5.0.1 regular firmware

    Wow I was jumping for JOY until I get iTunes error 1............ I look it up and to fix it, it says put the phone in DFU.... Although I was in DFU. Thank you so much Simon for your help already it nearly worked, if you have an idea of how to fix this I would GREATLY appreciate it.

    Odd you would get an error 1 (baseband error) when restoring to the current firmware. One way around it would be to restore to a custom 5.0.1 made with pwnage tool or snowbreeze.

    Default Thank you so much!

    I actually ran the "Recovery Fix" in Redsn0w and it rebooted into the fresh 5.0.1 restore. Everything's working fine Glad to be out of that hole. Now wether to or not jailbreak 5.0.1 with all the problems I've been seeing, I really wanted iBooks to work so I could get Steve Jobs biography..

    I read you can just move iBooks to the application folder but am not sure how to do that stuff.

    Error 1 and 21 are caused by running older version of iTunes. You need to get the latest or at least on 10.5.01
