Use another freaken computer then.
Then restore it using that CFW you made with SB.
It ain't that complicated especially since you have an old boot room.

Double check your host file again and make sure its right. Reboot your computer and try to restore again.

Well, I was on 4.2.1 a day ago, when I couldn't get to 5.0, I decided to go to 4.3.3, and did that with RedSn0w 0.9.9b8 on a Mac with no issues at all.
During the day, I've been at work and on a mac and a pc there, and in the last couple of hours, I've been at home and on a mac and pc here.
Mac is where I normally do everything and what my Phone is synced with.

Then it is your mac that giving you this problem, use a pc instead .

Thanks for all of your help... 3 different computers and basically the same results. Amazing how I can restore to 4.x but not 5.x on any of them. (Multiple restarts, multiple OS configurations, multiple cables and so on and so on)

Restore to custom firmware of 5.0.1 and do this to unlock with Ultrasn0w : [HOW TO] Fix for Ultrasn0w on 5.0.1

Ok, upgraded to CFW 5.0.1 with Snowbreeze flawlessly, now doing Fix for Ultrasn0w.
