3gs on 6.15.00 bricked from redsnow crash
I tried jailbreaking my 3gs on my imac running os lion with redsn0w_mac_0.9.7b6
since i was on 4.2.1 i thought i could at least get a tethered jailbreak cuz i have the new bootrom
anyway I clicked on install ipad baseband during the process so i could use ultrasn0w. it did the jailbreak but then it got stuck on the apple logo for like an hour so i turned it off and back on. same thing!!
so I tried updating it to 4.3.3. without shsh blobs. I edited the hosts file so to use saurik server even though i had no shsh blobs and it updated the whole thing fine
after the update it was just a black screen.
I ran it through tiny umbreally and the only option was to hit fix recovery so i did and it initilized green poison
then it just stayed on that screen forever.
Now it is just black, stuck in DFU and unable to get out no matter what I do.
I would just like to restore it to a working state at this point.... anyworking state....
is there any hope?

Ahh be careful about updating your baseband to 6.15.00...
There is no software downgrade procedure available once your baseband has been upgraded to 6.15.00. However, @MuscleNerd is currently working on this.
If you have a baseband 6.15.00, you will NOT be able to restore using the original firmware. That means iTunes will give you an error message if you try to restore it directly from there. You can only do it via a custom or ‘cooked’ firmware created with redsn0w or other tools such as sn0wbreeze.
GPS will not work properly (or not working at all!) on your iPhone due to this baseband although a fix is said to be on the horizon.
You will void any Apple warranties as they can easily detect this baseband if you bring it in for service.
The resale value of your iPhone may be lesser due to the above, that’s if you intend to sell it at one point. Otherwise, this is not really an issue.

Its crazy cuz I knew the problems and risks with 6.15.00
but even though it was updated to that baseband the only thing that worked was pressing the update and restore button from itunes, itunes did the restore right to 5.0.1 without any problems and no errors... really weird eh? so Im on 5.0.1 on 6.15.00 and everything seems to be working fine

I have a 3GS on 6.15 - when I did an apple restore, I was stuck because the phone refused to activate, even with a valid AT&T sim. I had to downgrade to 4.1 w/custom firmware.
How did you activate on 5.0.1??

Yes, you can activate it with atnt sim even without a service. You have to say NO to find my location and No to find my iphone when setting up because of Ipad baseband.

There are no "find my location" or "find my iphone" options in the iOS 5.0.1 activation process. There is only enable or disable location services. With location services disabled, I can try either wifi or itunes activation. With wifi activation, I get "activation server not available"; itunes, tells me there is no sim in the phone.
