I'm completely hosed
I'm a neophyte at this stuff so please excuse my ignorance. I have a AT&T 3Gs which I wanted to give to my daughter who is with Verizon. I upgraded to a 4s so thought she could enjoy the 3Gs until she is eligible for upgrade. Before I got the 4s, I upgraded to the phone to iOS5. My plan was to downgrade the phone to an OS that would boot untethered. I used redsn0w 0.9.9b7 to jailbreak the phone but after attempting to downgrade, I've lost the "settings" icon as well as safari, itunes, music, etc as well as the quick launch icons on the bottom of the phone and the Cydia icon is gone as well. I tired reinstalling redsn0w but it replies that the phone has already been pwnd.
I tried reinstalling iphone2,1_3.1_7C144_restore.ipsw with the stock "hosts" file in DFW and after itunes extracts the file, I get a "The iPhone could not be restored. The device isn't eligible for the requested build.
I'm stuck. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Me head hurts.

You can only downgrade to 4.1 if you don't have any blob.

Thanks iYeow. That almost did the trick but I got a 1015 error toward the end of the restore process which remember reading about. I'll have to dig further.

The iPhone 3GS only runs on gsm technology - AT&T, tmobile, simple mobile, h2o. VERIZON and Sprint run on CDMA. You can't make a GSM phone run on CDMA. Two incompatible technologies. So no, there is no way to make 3GS work on Verizon.

Thanks all. I'm At&T for work and my daughters are both Verizon. Just upgraded one daughter to the 4s on Verizon but the younger is only eligible in Feb 2012 so I'll wait. Should I switch both to AT&T or just wait it out?
