iOS5 Jailbreak Failure
I tried to jailbreak my iPhone 3GS on iOS5 and when it gets to "Exploiting with limera1n" my phone boots normally, then redsn0w stays on that screen so I click cancel and it closes. I tried again, this time it got to the screen after "Exploiting with limera1n" (forgot the message) and redsn0w crashed and my phone stayed in DFU so I had to reboot (not restore).
My friend told me to restore to stock and try jailbreaking again, and "try not to **** it up this time." He won't tell me what he means by this. So how can I fix this without restoring to stock iOS5?

Hey I'm having the same problem:
I installed the Siri GUI from both SiriSn0w which didn't work, and then later by SiriN1ight which did work (the GUI). But when I did a reboot, it just stopped working.
I had an at&t 4.3.3 bb 04.10.01, which I just upgraded with redsn0w 0.9.9b to have a customer IPSW of 5.0 to preserve the bb as i use a Gevey Sim.
Now when I try and restore it, iTunes isn't recognising the IPSW and iExplore isn't connecting to my phone and basically i don't know what to do. I've gotten rid of the servers in the GNU nano, tried it with a # but it didnt work so then deleted them and ive also flushed the cache (dscacheutil -flushcache).
How can I restore my phone to work? Any help appreciated!

You don't have the same problem, nor do you understand my problem.
You: Can't restore. Go to iPhone Downloads and download iOS 5.0.1 IPSW for your device, you can't restore to 5.0.
Me: Can't jailbreak, simple as that.
And don't download Siri unofficially, no matter how much you want it. It is going to **** up your phone, like it did. If you really do want Siri that bad, just buy a damn 4S it's only $199 for the 16gb.
And pronto.peter, yeah I noticed some of my friends are, too. I'm going to try a fresh restore tonight then I'm going to try jailbreaking.Last edited by ihatefruit; 11-12-2011 at 07:56 PM.

Thanks for the response, and for telling me what i do or don't seem to know/have.
FYI:
I managed to fix this issue by downgrading my phone. I'd suggest if you downgrade to go for 4.3.3 because I originally wasted time installing 4.3.5 and realised that it was untethered again.
To fix this, make sure you have:
TinyUmbrella
IPSW 4.3.3
Pwnage tool 4.3.3
Run TinyUmbrella, and start the TSS server. Then go to Advanced and ensure that 'Set host to Cydia on exit' is unchecked
Run Pwnage tool and cook your custom IPSW
Once this is ready, you can put your phone back into DFU mode, and run iTunes. Before you go to restore load up Terminal.
You need to run the following commands in Terminal (lion): Sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
ensure that the following is the last thing in your host lists : 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
note that this has no # symbol in front of it.
hit Ctrl and O to save, and then Ctrl and X to exit.
Then carry on your restore as you normally would from DFU mode in iTunes.

I'm confused because I don't have a Mac, and why do I need to change hosts? And with that process, would I be downgrading to 4.3.3 then upgrading to 5.0.1 again or just staying on 4.3.3? I'm very confused. Also, I don't need an unlock so would having pwnage/sn0wbreeze be necessary?
And sorry for misunderstanding.Last edited by ihatefruit; 11-12-2011 at 08:27 PM.

@ihatefruit LOLOLOLOL HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA It seems you've changed your "tune" a little bit. You went from snobby and disrespectful to polite and sincere (albiet fake). There wasn't a misunderstanding. You were flat out being a bufoon.

so i went back down to 4.2.1 b/c of battery life issues on newboot rom 3gs (ipad bb), but now i updated to 5.0.1 (w/ cfw) and Shift+ restore while in dfu mode...but when i try JB with redsnow 9.9b8:
1. it doesnt auto detect 5.0.1 so i have to select 5.0 manually and once i hit JB this is what i get.
2. I tried snowbreeze and it stops at 96% on apple logo as if it was restoring,
i tried ibooty and to Just Boot and Kick me out of DFU with no success
Any help?
....and just recently it flooded with a bunch of lines, reset, and stuck at apple logoLast edited by imperialto; 11-18-2011 at 01:58 AM.

Try TinyUmbrella. Try the various modes in that program. I also read somewhere going through the steps to enter DFU mode again may help you. Keep in mind, i just read it somewhere. Not sure if it'll help in the least or work at all.

I'd give tiny umbrella another go. With some of my restores I've missed simple mistakes, for ex not selecting the firmware version prior to the jailbreak etc. I've then had to reinstall the firmware and do it all step by step again.
