Default 2G running 3.1.2 trying to upgrade to 4.2.1

For some reason when I use redsnow 0.9.6.rc19 to try to upgrade my 2G from 3.1.2 to 4.2.1, redsnow goes through all the processes but the ramdisk doesn't show up on the phone's display screen & after about 3-4 minutes of a black screen the phone reboots back to version 3.1.2. Can anyone help me find the compatible redsnow version to upgrade to firmware 4.2.1? BUT AGAIN THIS IS A 2G NOT A 3G OR 4G.

Also, 2G iPhones can't upgrade past 3.1.3, they're outdated and no longer supported by Apple (Just like how 3G iPhones can't upgrade to iOS5). The only thing you can do that I did w/ my 2G phone before upgrading to the new iPhone is upgrade to a custom firmware called "WhiteD00r"; but even then the phone is slow and it's just 3.1.3 w/ some iOS4 tweaks.
