    Default White Cydia App icon

I followed directions to the "T" and all I got was a white cydia icon and when i push it it just crashes instantly. The JB went smooth and had no hang-ups.

    Phone is a 3GS Modem FW is 05.16.05 on iOS5 Model MC555LL

The guide showed my phone as being relevant for a JB but obviously something didn't go right here.

Any thoughts? I see others have asked similar questions but no one answered.

    Thanks everyone,

    Jon

That's just it, I can't open Cydia and therefore I can't download any of the apps and SBsettings would be what I need (potentially) to respring.

Unless you are talking about an alternate way of downloading apps from Cydia, I'm not familiar with that. I've never had to do that before as every jailbreak (except this one) has worked flawlessly.

Can you explain in more detail what you are talking about? I appreciate you response.

Again, the Cydia icon is there and labeled as such but it's white and just instantly crashes in a micro-second.

P.S--I suck as I just fully restored back to stock firmware. What a b#tch!!!

Sounds like you need to boot tethered. What firmware are you on and what did you jailbreak with?

I should've tried that but I figured it was a fresh JB and it wouldn't make a bit of difference. The phone itself was working fine but no working Cydia app. I already restored back to stock and now I'm just waiting for as many thoughts on this as possible until something makes sense and I will try it again.

Also, this may be the dumbest question asked ever but when I downloaded redsnow's tool, I opened it with WINRAR and when I came back to use it again, it was gone? So I had to download it and extract it again to access the exe. file. How do I save that redsnow interface for when I may need to reboot again?

    Thanks again,

    Jon

@Simon----I'm on iOS5*five* and I didn't bother to reboot as it was a fresh JB, never was able to open the Cydia app as it crashed fast as a fart and it's white. As I stated, I'm back to full stock iOS5 again.

5.0 is a tethered jailbreak meaning after you do the initial jailbreak you have to use redsnow again, choose extras and choose the option to just boot. Otherwise cydia will not open.

So if I'm understanding you properly, I finish the JB, phone is useable and then I have to instantly reboot?

If so, I didn't see that in the directions at all??? I got the Pwnapple and it said done and ran through all the CMD lines and poof. Then a white icon.

OK, so if I do it again, once the phone is useable--I reboot right away?

Also, I understand it's a tethered JB but I didn't know I had to reboot it right after the JB installs for the first time (if that's what you are implying)...

Yup, as soon as it is up after the initial jailbreak you have to reboot and use redsnow to boot tethered to make cydia useable.

Ok, still doesn't work. After the intial JB, I turned off the phone and went to Extras in the redsnow menu and hit "Just Boot" and followed the prompt (like it was jailbreaking again) and it said "Exploiting with Limerain) and phone turned back on but it's still a white cydia icon and it crashes instantly.

What the heck am I doing wrong?!

Try again. Sounds like a misfire (it happens). Redsnow should say done after it does it and you should get a pineapple in the middle of your screen instead of a apple.

I'll try again, I'm following the prompts of going into DFU mode again. I'm supposed to do that correct? Even their FAQs page says what you said to do about rebooting again if cydia crashes.

Ya you can follow the prompts if you want. I just put mine in DFU myself and dont bother with the countdown normally.

Thank you for all you help and I truly do appreciate it all.

@Simon--You really are a Superbad Moderator and your help was outstanding. Pineapple came up quick. I did you suggestion of putting it into DFU mode instead of following their crappy countdown. Cydia is loading file system now.

    Thanks a ton MMI,

    Jon

Well, I downloaded Shrink and others that came with it and it had to reboot. Screen acted goofy with a faint white stripe down the middle. Now it's stuck at the apple logo still. I suck!!!

    Hey Septic Tank.

I have the exact same problem with the exact same phone/iOS. I'm following along at every step and getting the same results. Except even why I don't do the count down and go to DFU mode from the screen previous the phone still loads all the way.

Well let you know if I get a solution.

    Thanks

I got it iTunes to recognize it and I'm restoring it again!!! BLAH!!!!!

I may have been the one to mess up though. When Cydia said to Reboot Device, I selected it. I'm wondering if I should've manually shut the phone off, then put it into DFU mode and run boot from redsnow? Is that my problem?

    If so, it's my mistake....

    Any thoughts, MMI?

I had the same exact problem as well. Once I saw the white screen I immediately rebooted my phone (NOT using redsnow). On start up, there was still a white screen so I immediately did a just boot using redsnow. After that reboot, all worked fine. Not sure how much of a difference doing a manual reboot first and then a redsnow just boot will work, but I no longer have the issue of a blank cydia icon.

Let me know if it works for you guys

It is fine to press reboot, but remember you need to use redsnow again to boot tethered otherwise you will get stuck at the apple logo.

Well, I "thought" I had it in DFU mode. It's been kinda tricky on this 3GS. So then when I thought it was in DFU mode, it never re-guided me into the redsnow reboot.

I'm afraid to do it again as it took me a bit to figure out how to have iTunes find it for a restore. Like I mentioned, I never had these issues with other JB's, this one has been a bad learning experience for me.
