HELP! Bricked phone after reset all on redsn0w! <--feeling very stupid

Hi guys,
Recently acquired an iPhone 4 to play around with.

I am on tmo so I decided to jail break it as I couldnt even get passed the activation screen.

I used redsn0w 0.9.9b2. Everything seemed to work fine, except that when I tried to turn on Wi-Fi, the option was greyed out.

I read that rejailbreaking it would fix that. I did that, it didn't help. I then read that doing a full reset would fix it, which clearly wasnt true.

Now I am bootlooping on the apple logo, if I can manage to magically get it into DFU mode, I can try rejail breaking at which point, the phone freezes on the "JAILBREAKING FIRMWARE" (or something similar)
with the running pineapple and a spinning wheel of death.

The buttons are mostly unresponsive. I just downloaded the 4.2.1 ipws file and thinking about trying that, itunes doesn't recognize the phone. I am not sure but when i flashed the phone originally it showed 4.2.1, not sure what was on it to start with, defnitely not iOS5.

So how screwed am I and what should I do?!?

Since i couldnt unlock the phone i cannot confirm the original firmware or baseband, but the phone had not been used in many months.

U need to do a restore I would use ifaith and grab the shsh of the device u can still do this even if the iOS on the device is crashed. U will need to put it in dfu mode and use ifaith to grab the shsh and build a signed ipsw u will be able to restore to the firmware on the device even if apple is not signing the firmware anymore. And about the wifi if it's not fixed when u restore u will need to do some hardware work and try to replace the wifi Antana and see if that helps. And If the phone is on Anything higher then 4.0.1 and does not have a unlockable baseband u can get a Gevey sim ultra witch works great to get the unlock back.

I was actually somehow able to login into recovery mode (itunes with cord on screen) using the redsn0w interface, and just decided to have itunes update the phone to 5.0. I would figure it out from there.

Everything seemed to go smoothly. Now the phone is once again stuck on the apple logo. The update completed over 30 minutes and all I see is the same white apple logo.

Arggg, any ideas?

So, I was able to again get itunes to recongnize the phone. Restored it again, and everything is OK!

If you jailbreak once you're on 5.0, it will be a tethered jailbreak. Google this if you're not familiar with the term.

This means every boot (not everytime you respring), you will need to use redsn0w and choose the Just Boot option to get the phone working again. Else, nothing but white Apple logo on boot. Tradeoff for jailbreaking until an untethered jailbreak comes out.
