Hello all,
Im sure this is a very stupid question but I want to be sure before I mess anything up... I have a 3GS running 4.0.1 and modem firmware 5.13.04 and the old bootrom.
I want to upgrade to iOS5 and unlock it. I understand that I can use the Redsn0w jailbreak and then unlock using UltraSnow.
1> Will I be able to successfully do an unthethered jailbreak with the latest RedSnow?
2> Will I be able to follow that with a successful unlock using the latest UltraSnow?
3> Will this method mess up my baseband?
Save you shsh first before do anything.
Then form what you said... restore with custom firmware preserve baseband and with old bootrom then it will be untethered jailbreak.
Do not update to a stock firmware! Use modified firmwares, if you intend to use ultrasn0w. You can get custom firmwares with PwnageTool, for Mac, and sn0wbreeze, for Windows. If you don't have the original SIM required to activate the phone, the be sure to tick the "Hacktivate" option. After you've gotten the customised firmware, open iTunes, right click on "Restore" and double click on the CUSTOM FIRMWARE. To be extra sure, delete the stock firmware. Let iTunes do it's thing and restore. You will need to be in pwned DFU mode for this to work. Good luck.
Thank you for your replies... Just to be sure, these are the steps Im going to follow:
1> Restore to a custom ios5 using redsnow on a mac
2> Jaiblbreak using redsnow
3> Unlock using ultrasnow
I have one question. Where will the Hactivate option be? I dont have the original sim and I cant see the Hactivate option on Redsnow either... Do I have to manually select it or does redsnow do it automatically?
If you restore to a custom firmware, it will already be jailbroken and I believe that redsn0w hacktivates automatically. But don't take my word for it, as I use sn0wbreeze.
