iPhone 3Gs iOS5 Tethered Jailbreak "Exploit failed."
So today I tried to jailbreak my iPhone 3Gs which I just upgraded to iOS 5. I watched it jailbreak and it got hung up on "Uploading first stage." in redsn0w. Then redsn0w crashed so I tried one more time and it stayed up (no crash) but only showed "Exploit failed." this time. Can someone help? Also I have the new bootrom, so it can't be untethered.
EDIT: My friend told me to reboot my PC and try the jailbreak again. No luck. Still need help.
EDIT: Tried one more time just for laughs and on the "Exploiting with limera1n" screen, it booted my phone normally. I REALLY want this to get fixed.Last edited by ihatefruit; 10-16-2011 at 10:57 PM.

Bump. And I have only tried jailbreaking using 0.9.9b4. Should I try 0.9.9b3 or would it not make a difference, or is it not compatible?

Hi there
Try tu run redsnow on compatibility mode Windows xp if you are on Win, and run it as Administrator
If that not work try for a couples time it would work cos i had the same issue .
And redsnow 0.9.9b4 its ok u shouldnt try some other version .

I'm actually using Windows XP, so no need for compatibility mode. I tried ~10 times by now, every attempt ended in one of the failures in the OP.
Tried one more time, just for laughs, and it got to the screen after "Uploading First Stage." where it shows build and a couple other things, then it went back to the Install Cydia, Install iPad Baseband, Deactivate screen. This is getting to be a real pain in the ***.Last edited by ihatefruit; 10-17-2011 at 10:05 PM.

Hey guys. Think I got the same problem. I have a JB iPhone 3G S and I accidently updated the damn thing to iOS5 this afternoon. I cannot get past the set up at the beginning because it says "Invalid SIM Card". I have already tried doing the JB for 5, but it freezes upon reboot after installing. Help?! Please?! ....

I had the same problem. You just have to ask a friend of yours for an AT&T SIM or a sim that's authorized and using it to get past the setup. After that you're free to jailbreak away! Good luck!
I'm also having problem with the Exploit failed thing, I think I'm stuck in a limbo between iOS5 and 4.1, cause I tried downgrading and the jailbreak went farther with 4.1, very strange...

Would this happen again if I backup, restore to clean ios5, and restore from backup?

I had the same problem. I was stuck in DFU mode and Recovery mode, unable for the redsn0W Recovery Fix or Just boot to work.
I also had problems getting the Jailbreak and Install Cydia to initially work on my phone.
The Recovery mode/DFU-Just Boot was fixed by restarting my machine and trying Just Booth while having the phone in DFU Mode (black screen).
The initial jailbreak I had to actually use redsn0w on a different computer. I also made sure the ipsw was in the same folder as redsn0w app. I read somewhere that makes a differen

I was having the same exploit failed problem and heres how I fixed it (SOLUTION FOR WINDOWS USERS).
THIS IS IN TWO PARTS FIRST PART FOR JAILBREAK AND SECOND PART OF USERS HAVING TROUBLE BOOTING JAILBROKEN PHONE
PART ONE
First off i used sn0wbreeze 2.8b11 to jailbreak. You can find a guide here: How To Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 On Windows Using Sn0wbreeze 2.8b11 [Guide] | Redmond Pie
After following that guide you may run into any of the following errors during snowbreeze update:
Error 3194: itunes is not authenticating your jailbreak.
To fix this error: 1) download tinyumbrella (google it). 2) CLOSE ITUNES and make sure you end process any itunes processes 3) go to advanced tab and uncheck "Set hosts to cydia on exit". 4) Start TSS Server and retry recovery with shift+click and snowbreeze IPSW
Error 2005: several possible solutions. Try plugging into different USB ports or using another USB cord first. Mine was solved using the following method(s):
Method 1 (next one is easier):
1) Download latest version of redsn0w
2) go to options and go to select IPSW (USE 5.0.0 even if u are on 5.0.1)
3) go to jailbreak and go until exploit fails
4) now go back into itunes and do a recovery with tinyumbrella still running
Method 2:
1) Download latest version of iReb
2) Run DFU mode using iReb
3) Try recovery again
Method 3:
if last method failed follow steps 1 and 2 then go into snowbreeze. After iReb application puts device in pwned DFU run iTunes recovery. If you get a 200# error still then (after using iReb) go into snowbreeze and use the built in iReb in snowbreeze. Then click okay on error and jailbreak should go through.
BOOTING ERRORS SOLUTIONS:
Some users for both redsnow and snowbreeze are having difficulties booting once iphone is jailbroken. If your iphone goes to a black screen on DFU and does not boot follow these steps (tested for snowbreeze):
1) Start redsnow 0.9.9b8 AND iBooty that came with snowbreeze 2.8b11 jailbreak
2) In REDSNOW go to extras/select IPSW and select a stock ios 5 (even if you are 5.0.1) then go boot only (DO NOT START BOOT YET)
3) in iBooty select your phone and do NOT hit start yet
4) begin boot only in redsnow (you should get exploit failed or your iphone should just stop at a black screen)
5) When iphone stops at black screen hit start on iBooty
6) iBooty should start up your phone
Really hope these solutions work for you all. Couldnt find ANYTHING that helped me and i redid the jailbreak a million times.
