Lightbulb Updating from iOS 4.x to iOS 4.3.3

I thought that since I updated from 4.1 to 4.3.3 I would post my procedure to help you guys

    1. Backup iDevice using iTunes (Right-Click idevice and then back up). Also click
transfer purchased if app store apps aren't copied onto iTunes yet.

    2. Download iOS 4.3.3 here (iOS 4.3.3 Download)
MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD FOR CORRECT DEVICE!

    3. If you're a on PC, shift click on Update inside iDevice tab on iTunes and point it
to .ipsw downloaded. If you're on a Mac option-click Update

    4. Let iTunes update

    5. Once finished, your iDevice will boot into an unjailbroken state. DON'T PANIC.
    It will all be fixed

    6. Get Redsn0w (iPhone Dev-Team2nd Post). Make sure it is 0.9.6rc18
or later. If you're on a Mac, run the app. If you're on a Win 7 or Vista run it
as administrator in Win XP SP3 compatibility mode

    7. Run Redsn0w and point it to to .ipsw file. Proceed until it has a list of
options. Enable Cydia and anything else, but the less selected, the less chance
    of something going wrong.

    8. Enter iDevice into DFU mode by following Redsn0w's instructions. After that
DON'T touch iDevice until lock screen is visible.

    9. Open Cydia (It may be a blank icon, however it will appear after reboot)
it will show "Preparing Filesystem" it will take roughly 5 min after that it
    will respring

    10. Go into Cydia and download REQUIRED packages (Vast majority can be done later)

    11. In iTunes right-click iDevice and "Restore from Backup" if there is unrecovered matertial. This will recover
the rest of your app store apps, music, movies, contact etc.

    12. You are pretty much able to disconnect from Pc OR Mac and download rest of Cydia packages

Hope this helped please reply if further help required

And assuming you are pointing your hosts file towards Apple server and your baseband will be updated too.

Yes, true iPhone unlock users need to be extra cautious when updating. I don't have any experience in that area because I have an iPod Touch!

For unlockers who need to preserve their baseband, this method is not applicable. Using a custom firmware is what is necessary. But thanks for the write-up, well done.
