Okay, I've been using this tutorial (Learn How to Use RedSn0w 0.9.6rc7, to Easily Manage your Tethered Jailbreak! | iJailbreak - Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Apple TV Jailbreak, Unlock, Cydia News) to install the redsn0w jailbreak. It says to use the command thing on Windows, and I did, and everything worked great except for a big problem with clicking links in email and switching between apps via multitasking (I would be returned to the lock screen).
Now when I DON'T use the command thing my iPod gets stuck with the Apple booting logo! So whatever way I do this, something screws up!
But I think I have the solution; on the tutorial it says:
If you are an experienced terminal/CMD user, here are RedSn0w’s command line arguments:
-j to ask redsn0w to “Just boot now tethered for now”
-i <filename> to specify your reference IPSW
-o for old-bootrom iPod touch 2G and iPhone 3GS
-b <filename> to specify your own boot logo png
Now obviously if you are not experienced in working with Terminal/CMD, this will not be much use to you. Luckily though, we are going to guide you through the rest of the process.
If you are on WINDOWS, you are going to type in the following command into CMD:
C:/redsn0w.exe -j -i C:/iPod4,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw
So that is what I did and as I said I had that issue with opening links...
So I was thinking, would it work if I inserted the "-o" into the command would that work? I didn't try it because I have no idea what "old-bootrom iPod touch 2G and iPhone 3GS" means! I haven't experimented because I only have one iPod, given to me by a friend, and if it gets busted, then I cannot replace it, not having an income.
P.S. Just ignore my last post...
Please, someone advise me!!!!!

Yeah it is 4.2.1. Really the only reason I am jailbreaking is to get home screen backgrounds and multitasking, I don't want anything else. Is there by any chance another jailbreak to do that?

iPod 2nd Generation 8gb. It is completely up-to-date as far as updates.

If you want to enable multitasking just jailbreak with greenpoison rc6.1 then use something like ztoggle from cydia to enable it. Unsure if the wallpaper feature works on 4.2.1 but if it does ztoggle can enable that too.

I'll give that a try! I really hope it is as simple as redsn0w was...

Simpler. Untethered, also. Redsn0w is unofficial tethered tool, whilst greenpois0n was the official untethered. Please do give it a try.
If you want native multitasking just edit the Springboard property list and change a string, edit it, make it true. Just the hardware name(example K478.plist). Apple has alot of functions disabled in stock iDevices once jailbroken changing strings in the OS enabling features unveiled in newer or specific devices.

Gr0undBreak1ng, your advice sounds great, but please know that I am very new at all of this, so could you translate that into English?
03-21-2011, 10:08 AM #11
Sorry. Once jailbroken, in Cydia you can install something called iFile. Once installing that you can edit and access your root filesystem. In your root filesystem you can navigate to a .plist in which you can edit to activate native homescreen background, multitasking etc.CHAZER99

Aha, I don't think I'll do that, a bit too risky sounding...
Anyway, I just jailbroke my iPod under greenpois0n, and while I still can't open e-mail links, I can deactivate multitasking whenever I'd have to, so I am good to go! Not to mention, there isn't as much battery drain with greenpois0n, so I am extremely content! Thank you both!

Ok. I have question for you by the way x98car
What, where, and what is information you have on launchd. We need it for our jailbreak. I promise once you tell me how it works on acitvating loader my dev teams jailbreak will be done for 4.3 and 4.3.1

Yes, zToggle was a miracle! It is even better than redsn0w's native settings thing... but yes, it is great!
Gr0undBreak1ng, I just noticed that you had an AlienWare listed in your operating systems! I am soooo envious!
