3G - 3.1.3 on 6.15BB want to upgrade to 4.2.1

Need help! I am currently on 3.1.3 with the 6.15 BB but I want to upgrade to the 4.2.1 firmware. However, everytime I use redsnow to jailbreak it gets about halfway through the process and then freezes with a small white box in the upper left hand corner. Then it finally reboots and gets stuck on the apple logo. Thats as far as I get.
It doesn't ever make it in the jailbreaking process to the "running pineapple" logo. It goes from the scrolling text to the small white box in the upper right hand corner.

Some posts here suggest that people having similar issues solved them by forcing their Windows multi-core CPUs to use only one core for Redsn0w. Search "core" and "affinity."

Try SoonerLater's suggestions and if that don't work try with diffirent computer.
