Jailbreaking Iphone 3gs

Im looking into buying an Iphone 3GS but I did some research on how to jail break, I saw that there is blackra1n, and redsn0w, and others,
but for Blackra1n and 3gs it says that you need to go over the jailbreak process every time you reboot the phone (shut it down) that happens with redsn0w?? or with a specific firmware?
please tell me,

If you get a 3GS with the new bootrom then it is a tethered jailbreak, meaning you will have to redo it everytime the phone reboots.

And no, there is no way of telling which bootrom your gonna get before hand.

There are tons of threads here about this if you'd search.....

before purchasing the 3gs, look at the serial number... specifically at the 4th and 5th number.... If its at 41 or higher, it will most likely be of the new bootrom... They started the new bootrom mid week 40... But MuscleNerd said he has seen a few week 42's that were still on the old bootrom...

I know thats a little contradicting, but if you find one under week 40 you'll be good 100%, anything else you will be taking a chance.

i successful jailbreak my friend's iphone 3g, but not my 3gs
he's enjoying the sweat iv made and im suffering with just fontswap and ringtones..
