    Default 3GS. can I JB 3.0?

** EDIT: Title should say 3.01

    Will this still work?

iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS on OS 3.0.x Using RedSn0w (Mac)

this link says no: Thinking of Jailbreaking a 3GS running 3.0, will redsn0w still work?

this link says yes (just skip verifying w/apple step: trying to jailbreak 3gs running 3.0 with redsn0w but having trouble!

Regardless, I want to preserve baseband. If I maintain 3.01, I can tether if the need arises, but eventually with be forced to 3.12 by some app that is a must have.

    What's the conclusion?

Unless you are already jailbroken, and have "3.0 ECID SHSH on file" when you run Cydia, you cannot restore any firmware (jailbroken or no) at 3.0 or 3.0.1.

If this is your case, I would review 3.1.2 jailbreak solutions that allow you to preserve baseband.

You can preserve your baseband and move up to 3.1.2 by using a custom firmware created by a MAC user. If you are already jailbroken then it is as simple as using the Shift+Restore method and then targeting the custom firmware in the popup box.

The only drawback I see using this method is that for some reason your carrier logo disappears even though you actually have cell service. It is supposed to be fixed in the next version of the Pwnage Tool. This is what I am waiting for while still enjoying 3.0.1.

"Carrier Logo Fixer" which was posted to Cydia a couple days ago seems to resolve this missing carrier issue in 3.1.2 jb

Yes, but is it a true fix or just something that rewrites the plist like MakeItMine? I have to have real time updates to my carrier due to roaming issues.

Both of those links say: yes, you can jailbreak using Redsn0w.

    dhamien I think you're right.

The 3.0 ECID SHSH will allow you to downgrade to an earlier firmware. But if you're already on 3.0 (regardles of ECID cache on Cydia) you should be able to jailbreak to 3.0.

    Sorry for any confusion.
